My treatment approach is integrative, and I tend to utilize more trauma-focused, IFS (Internal Family Systems), EMDR, somatic and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques but it depends on the person and what works best for them.
Sometimes the decision to engage in psychotherapy can be daunting and overwhelming. You may have been contemplating the idea of beginning therapy for some time or it may be that an experience or something in your life has triggered the decision to begin seeking support and/or a change. Many people begin therapy because they are experiencing sadness, depression, anxiety, grief/loss or can't articulate the reason but know something is different and they just don't feel "right". Old coping mechanisms aren't as effective and/or you seek a different unbiased perspective.

I am trained in EMDR, a therapeutic technique used for anxiety or distress from trauma, but also use traditional talk therapy, play therapy, family therapy, ERP, or even Telehealth video sessions.
People need solutions that work in real life! What truly inspires me is witnessing people who initially come to therapy feeling lost, challenged, or confused, and as we work together, I see them find the courage and strength to change! Often this means learning new skills/behaviors, developing healthier patterns, or discovering inner strengths. Helping people discover that life can be different is rewarding - whether it's a kid struggling at school, a person struggling with depression or anxiety, a life stressor, or a past traumatic event - we can tackle it and help you (or your child) re-write or edit this story.

My specialties are in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy, drawing from both Western and Eastern research-based practices.
Struggling with finding relief from low mood or traumatic responses? Have you tried self-help, medications, or even several years of traditional talk therapy without relief? Maybe you are finding difficulty maintaining secure attachments or have relationship issues. I'm glad you're here. This journey to healing is tough, and you shouldn't have to do it alone. My clinical experience and training has focused on treating adult clients with concerns related to depression, anxiety, trauma, emotional abuse, relationship issues, personality disorders, and life-transitions.

Approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness as well as EMDR.
You may be feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, or perhaps unsettled with yourself, your career, your relationships or life in general. My clients are usually looking to get "unstuck," gain insight, decrease stress, over come a traumatic experience, cope with difficult emotions and situations, improve their relationships and connect with their joy in life. I use a variety of approaches depending on individual needs, and realize that no singular approach is right for everyone. As my client, you are treated in a safe, warm atmosphere without judgment so you can feel free to be open and express yourself at your own pace.

With the help of EMDR, we can reduce the overwhelm & emptiness you feel by actually letting your brain and body heal themselves.
To all the perfectionists & people pleasers out there: No, life does not have to be this hard. Let me paint you a picture: You are overwhelmed by stress and anxiety, but you do everything you can to appear perfectly fine in front of other people. You feel really alone, but you’re afraid to burden others with your pain. You feel like you’re constantly running on empty, but you don’t know how to get back to feeling like yourself again. To make matters worse, that voice in your head won’t shut up about how you can't trust yourself and there must be something wrong with you. Does this sound like you?

I have over 15 years of counseling experience and am an LGBTQIA+ certified therapist. My areas of specialty include anxiety, trauma processing, life transitions, social skills, situational mutism, and working with LGBTQIA+ individuals. Sometimes people are hesitant to seek counseling because they don't want to have to relive painful events. EMDR therapy enables individuals to reprocess traumatic events without explaining and reliving all the details.

I utilize evidenced based interventions including CBT, MI, Solution Focused Therapy, and EMDR.
While many of the things life throws at us can be challenging and painful, they can also become a catalyst to showcase our strengths, resiliency, and opportunity for growth. I feel that our experiences, both positive and negative, help shape who we are, and make us unique. Through counseling, developing a better understanding of our histories, along with the connection to this and current functioning in various aspects of our lives; we can greatly enhance insight into ourselves as to why we do what we do.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
