I specialize in working with individuals seeking support related to relationship concerns, racial/ethnic identity, challenges specific to women, difficult family dynamics, and complex trauma.
With almost 10 years of experience between Brazil and the U.S., I have learned that mental health, an essential aspect of general health, can be easily overlooked. However, life can be overwhelming at times, and we may find ourselves facing challenges that seem impossible to handle or process. During these difficult periods, psychotherapy can be a powerful tool for healing, personal growth, and increasing self-knowledge. Together, we can explore emotions and feelings, collaborate in identifying your needs and conflicts, and create a more meaningful life.

Asking for therapy is not easy, but it is a sign of strength that I support. My practice is client-centered, based on a systems approach & family-of-origin themes/issues. I focus on helping my clients to find solutions to their emotional challenges and to work through transitions, crises, trauma & adjustments so they can develop & enhance their behavioral health. I avoid "cookbook" approaches, and use evidence & strength-based psychotherapy & counseling to guide adults, youth, families & couples to achieve their own positive solutions.I enjoy helping young adults, teens, & other helping professionals/educators deal with life stressors effectively.

People come to me because they feel trapped, depressed, anxious or angry, or stuck in a rut. There is a huge gap between expectations and reality together with a breakdown in their mind, body, emotions, and spirit. They feel unregulated, unbalanced, unable to sleep, exhausted, in pain, in fight or flight mode most of the time and sometimes, have suicidal tendencies. They are crying or screaming in one way or the other. They want relief, things to go back to where they were, change, peace of mind and time to heal. Most importantly, they want love and compassion.

I started working as a therapist while living abroad in Italy. I helped families with children with developmental disabilities, and coordinated services within the school systems. I also helped English speaking adults with substance abuse issues. Since moving back to the U.S, I have worked with children with austism spectrum disorder, as well as teens with anxiety and depression. Most recently I have been working with adults with opiate/opioid addiction. I also work with families, couples, and children. As a therapist, my goal is to help people achieve their goals to live happier, healthier, lives.

You might feel anxious, or depressed. You want to change but you feel stuck, unable to move forward. You might be unhappy with aspects of yourself, or your relationships, but you do not know what to change, how to change. You might suffer because of trauma, or for a loss that feels too hard to bear. Talking to a therapist can help. If you decide to meet with me, my first goal will be to connect with you, and help you feel understood. Working from this connection, I will try to help you understand more of yourself, and know how to change using the therapeutic techniques most appropriate for your characteristics and needs.

Relational Life Therapist. Cross cultural therapist. I help couples (and other dyads) get to the source of their issues and learn how to create the relationship they long for. Some dyads that see me may be on the brink of relationship rupture and dissolution. Some may be stuck having the same arguments with the same lack of progress and feel like Sisyphus with his boulder. Some may be ahead of the game and seek therapy before they ruin a good thing. All of them want to learn healthy relationship habits that stick. The individual clients I see often struggle with spiritual questions, self acceptance, and/or relationships.

You feel stuck. Struggling to find yourself, frustrated, and feeling not good enough. You may feel burdened by the expectations of who and what you are “supposed” to be. You’re a high achiever with even higher standards, and you’ve worked hard to get to this point. You're a natural go-getter, but your typical problem-solving approach isn't cutting it anymore. You wonder what the missing piece is.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
