It is a priority that you feel safe and in control of your therapy, Over the course of our first three sessions, I will be asking a myriad of questions designed to help us determine a diagnosis & explore your needs. The fourth visit is a treatment planning session where we will work together to set quantitative goals. Your thoughts will be a valued piece of the equation. Ask me anything.

I work with a variety of concerns related to finding one's way through life. Effective therapeutic relationships are where mutually agreed upon goals are worked toward. Research suggests that utilizing treatment approaches that are consistent with personal beliefs is effective. Thus, I gather information about what you think you need and determine whether I can offer appropriate care. If necessary, I will provide a referral to a more appropriate provider or to supplementary care. I see clients on Tuesdays and am a full time faculty member at the U. of St. Thomas.

Within this safe space, we'll work together to find some clarity with your struggles or brokeness. I am interested in the intersection between historical, social and personal trauma.
I am a white, ciswoman, eager to work with adults interested in integrating Somatic Experiencing work into psychotherapy, a body based trauma therapy. If you recognize that your personal struggles are connected to the pervasive impact of the social, political, structural and power dynamics in which we live, working on that connection can be powerful. Embodied psychotherapy can be helful if you are feeling stuck and flat, or anxious and feel like you can't turn off, or if you flip back and forth between anxious and despairing. I hope to support your natural resilience so you can move through the stressors of life with more ease.

If you are looking for a therapist who is present, genuine, and offers a caring and therapeutic space, then we might be a match. I love working with clients who are brand new to therapy and might feel a bit nervous. And clients who have been in therapy previously and may already know what they want out of the experience. Wherever you are on your journey, my mission is to meet you right where you are and walk alongside you to achieve the goals and dreams you have, or perhaps work to develop them altogether. I am also trained in Brainspotting which can be especially powerful for clients with a history of trauma.

I specialize in trauma treatment in couples, families, and individuals.
I work with people who want better relationships with others and better relationships with themselves. Couples, families, and individuals I see are bright, curious, motivated people who find their lives disrupted somehow - by the intrusion of traumatic experiences, life transitions, or persistent struggles with mental health that don't resolve on their own. I have a deep understanding of the unique therapy needs of therapists and doctors and their partners and families, and I enjoy working with folks anywhere on the gender and sexuality spectra. I also work with torture and war trauma survivors, refugees, and asylum seekers.

My work has been primarily centered around concerns relating to complex trauma, substance use, anxiety, ADHD, and identity concerns. In particular, I have a strong passion for working within the LGBTQIA+ community. As part of my practice, I recognize that our overall health can be impacted by our lived experiences with the broken systems around us, and at times, symptoms can be a direct result from living within these systems. My focus is to help clients gain insight around the impacts that past experiences may have had, address past trauma, recognize one's own strengths, and learn how to navigate through the challenges of life.

I have training in EMDR which is useful in treating trauma disorders.
Suffering. Sooner or later we all experience varying degrees of suffering. The world can be harsh and painful, especially when understanding is hard to find. Sometimes burdens become to great to carry alone. When searching for help you want someone caring to understand your struggle and unique situation. I work with people who are seeking help and treatment with life situations that are causing them distress either mentally, emotionally, physically and/or relationally.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
