Available to start with new clients! I specialize in working with individuals and couples who are experiencing difficult life transitions in areas such as career, faith, and relationships (familial, marital, parenting, or the challenges of trying to become a parent). I also specialize working with clients that are stretched thin and tired of the daily overwhelm of being anxious and stressed. It can be painful to feel stuck, unsure, or out of place in many of the relationships and environments you find yourself. In my office, all parts of your identity are welcome without shame or judgement - there is no such thing as a taboo topic.

You hope to overcome anxiety, depression, marital distress, infidelity, divorce, addiction, trauma, etc.
You wonder how things got this way, you used to feel connected with your partner. You feel alone, confused, frustrated, misunderstood, rejected etc. You reach out, you are trying…it turns to an argument or distancing. It often seems like a blame game with defensive reactions. How do you turn this around and feel safe with your partner again, or other loved ones? You are concerned about the outcome, yet it’s not getting better. Something needs to change but you’re unsure how to approach things.

On the outside you look like you are put together and can do it all, but inside you feel like a imposter and will never be good enough. You constantly come up with a list of all the things that you need to be better at, do better at. You fall last on your list because what happens if everyone else needs are not met? What happens if you are not perceived as having it together. You're exhausted, broken, and sooo OVER IT. That is where I would like to say to you, "you deserve to be loved and cared for too".

I have a very direct yet gentle approach to getting to know who you are and how best to help you break through barriers and other debilitating problems you may be facing. Sometimes, these problems may be a result of lifelong issues; other times, it may be a result of a temporary change in your life such as divorce, loss, or a recent trauma. I work with you to discover new approaches and solutions for the task at hand. I am not traditional, sometimes mouthy, and a bit wacky at times, but I will walk with you through the process until you can walk alone. My heart does get involved at times because being human is all I know.

The people I see often feel worried, confused, sad, angry, or struggle with similar feelings. Many have lost a loved one or are in a troubled relationship. Others struggle with depression, anxiety, addiction, or abusive relationships. Still others seek meaning and purpose. Regardless of the problem or mix of problems, the goal is to have a richer, more satisfying life. As well as listening with care, my style is to talk openly, sharing my thoughts and feelings about you and your situation. I bring a lifetime of success and failure, joys and sorrows, to my work.

Therapy is a process that is often sought out during times of change, stress or transition. It can take courage to reach out to others. Thus, I feel it important to have a level of trust and comfort with your therapist. I greatly enjoy providing direction and insight to the clients I serve. I view my role as one that facilitates further introspection and growth. Every life event, those that are joyful, painful, or somewhere in between, can serve to shape us as an individual as we make choices for how we are going to respond.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
