I have used Structural Family Therapy, Emotional-Focused Therapy and Gottman Theory when working with couples and families.
Do you feel disconnected to yourself or your partner? Life can be hard and frustrating. In a world run by social media/screen time, we often feel "alone together". It is my belief that everyone can use a little motivation and guidance when it comes to taking charge of their own life. Whether you are battling stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, a life event, etc. it is important to have the support you need to foster change and growth in your life. Together we can build a strong foundation for you (or your relationship) to continue moving forward and tackle any roadblocks that may come in the future.

My clinical interests and experience are broad and cover anxiety, depression, adjustment, stress management, trauma, social challenges, relationships, conflict management, family dynamics, anger, grief, self-esteem/worth, sleep hygiene, career exploration, identity development, existential concerns, and many others.
Professionally and personally, I have a passion for social justice work and am driven to help all people successfully navigate an increasingly complex multicultural society. As technology shrinks the world, we are exposed to an ever more diverse set of people, communities, ideas, and perspectives. Whether we are a part of historically privileged or oppressed communities, all of us are working to find our place in this neo-diverse society. More and more, I see this challenge represented in my clients as they seek understanding of their issues, strengths, and identities.

The ideal client for me would be a child, adult, couple, family or group that desires an inner peace that is lacking in their life. This client has a great degree of motivation with the understanding that their wellbeing is achievable. As a Christian counselor, relying on the Holy Spirit is imperative in being able to help clients.

Do you have something on your mind? There are times when we all have thoughts running through our minds. Thoughts related to family, friends, relationships, school, love, spirituality, money, work, or happiness. Sometimes they are memories from your past that you're unable to let go. Maybe you can't sleep, maybe you can't eat. Maybe you have lost your purpose, who you are, what you're doing or why. It could be big, or just a small thing you want to let go. These situations can slow you down and pull your life to a stop.

Throughout life’s journey, we may find ourselves feeling lost, unsure of where to start of where to go. We realize that past experiences have shaped our worldview, and how we relate to and connect with others. We may recognize that there are patterns within our family system that we want to break, but aren’t sure how. When we have experienced trauma, we may find it easier to leave it in the past; however, these experiences can change how we think and feel about ourselves and our surroundings. Through therapy, we can learn new skills to strengthen our relationships and establish secure attachment patterns.

I am trained in Internal Family Systems (Level 1), and I often use this sort of “parts language” from IFS in sessions.
My desire is to instill hope in clients as they learn to listen to themselves so that they can engage in relationships and work from a place of calm confidence. I believe we all can do this, but some parts of us keep us from living the way we want to live, deep down. These “parts” might have developed from prior relational or family dysfunction or abuse, social and cultural pressures, and the aftermath of such experiences. My passion is to work with clients to identify the parts that, despite their best intentions, block us from experiencing internal peace and full connection with ourselves and with others.

Your commitment to your family is recognized, and it would be a privilege to facilitate your child becoming the best version of themselves with you.
I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and young teens (5-15) with neurodevelopmental disorders and behavioral challenges. The world is not designed for neurodiverse individuals, which may cause your child to struggle. I also appreciate working with their siblings and caretakers as I acknowledge it is a unique life experience of loving someone with a neurodevelopmental disorder. To address my client's goals, I utilize evidence-based interventions and techniques from cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), pivotal response treatment (PRT), and mindfulness.

I am a Neurofeedback Specialist, Mindfulness trained, Internal Family Systems expert and my major is in PTSD/trauma.
My "ideal client" knows to provide loved ones the very best, he or she must also be at an individual best. Short-changing the "self" depletes the ability to offer abundance to others. Whereas prospering in heart, health, mind, and body lead to connections of premium value. My clients look beyond the ordinary, knowing possibilities are endless and will be found with concerted effort and bravery. Keeping life fresh, free and filled with potential, elevates us all. When my clients depart they have renewed joy and gratitude because they are awakened to the gifts that were once just beyond their reach but now part their life scripts.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
