Throughout my career I have focused extensively on helping people navigate the complex emotions and adjustments that come with grief.
Everyday life can feel incredibly heavy and often times lonesome. Talking to a mental health professional such as myself can be very helpful. There is a myth that being in therapy is a sign of weakness, when in fact, reaching out for help is an act of courage and definitely one of the first steps of this journey. It is my privilege to work with you. My deep understanding of the diverse needs of my clients helps me meet you where you are. As a compassionate listener I provide a safe and nurturing environment where you can explore your emotions, confront challenges, and embark on a journey of growth, healing and self-discovery.

Much of my early work has been in hospice & bereavement, and I have worked in pediatric hospice, palliative care & bereavement, with older adults, and with college students.
Are you feeling overwhelmed? Stressed? Trying to keep up with all the demands on you while working/living/parenting/doing/being during these times? Things feel hard. Being able to navigate rocky times is essential. I believe in the importance of being able to tell your story and for your story to be heard. My hope is to empower you to fully know yourself, your values, strengths, and aspirations and for you to feel more peace in your mind, body, and spirit.

I also specialize in grief & loss which can include traumatic loss, anticipatory grief, pet loss, as well as the loss of a relationship.
I specialize in working with high achievers, people pleasers and perfectionists. In friendships, relationships, and/or at work you’re feeling like you’re never quite “good enough.” You want to feel better but you continue to be held back by your past. What if you could finally relax, have more ease and confidence? What if you could feel more joy in your life? Maybe you’ve recently experienced a major life change. These can be especially tough while also navigating relationships, friendships, your family-of-origin, and (most importantly) the relationship with yourself.

Deciding you need therapy can be a tough process. I believe the counseling relationship should be one where you and I form real connection- and that connection is where the foundation of healing can begin. I aim to create a supportive space to partner with clients in their healing process. I am rostered in a variety of evidence-based trauma and grief treatments for youth and adults, and I love to include mindfulness, self-compassion, and humor into treatment. My training in attachment work and years collaborating with foster/adoptive families help me support folks in a variety of constellations.

I specialize in grief work, healing trauma, life-transitions, healing and nurturing relationships, learning to get to the core of one's being through undoing patterns that keep one from being who they really are, and seeing things in new ways.
Each person comes to individual therapy for numerous and very honest reasons, despite how overwhelmed and powerless they are feeling. It is okay to not know what to do or know what is next. Deep down, I believe that each one of us has the innate wisdom to know themselves and to know what to do next, under optimal conditions. Couples caught in a criticize-withdraw cycle are often doing what their survival instincts tell them to do. I am also highly trained in couples counseling and marriage counseling through emotionally focused therapy (EFT). Marital therapy and individual counseling need guidance from an empathic but neutral party.

The pain of grief can be overwhelming and unbearable at times. The loss of a loved one is probably one of the most difficult situations that we will experience in life, especially if you are struggling with symptoms of complicated grief, such as intense feelings of guilt or responsibility, nightmares or disturbing images, or extreme emotional dysregulation that interferes with your daily functioning. Sometimes thoughts, images and emotions have us "stuck" in our grief journey, and we need help working through these issues...

Welcome, I am so glad you are here. Experiencing a loss or trauma can feel alienating and leave you lacking connection. Maybe you have experienced a loss/trauma while also navigating pregnancy, postpartum or infertility. Maybe you are/were military but don't feel supported by the systems in place to "help". You might want to feel different but struggle to navigate the how. Or the opposite you understand the how, you have done lots of therapy and continue to feel like you are not making the progress you wish. Whether you've never been to therapy before or you have tried it before but feel stuck; you are in the right place.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
