I've been privileged to work with individuals and couples seeking support for issues around intimacy and relationships, codependency, anxiety, depression, cultural identity, trauma, and substance abuse.
Whatever it is that brings you to therapy, I stand by the commitment, “I’m here with you.” I believe that each of our stories are equally sacred as they are unique and see therapy as an opportunity to cultivate curiosity for ourselves and to let go of self-judgement. Taking a Psychodynamic approach, I aim to help my clients unravel, experience, and understand themselves more deeply, through building awareness, flexibility, and the capacity to make change. Humor, authenticity, and the willingness to experiment is foundational to my approach.

I believe that in order to work on your issues -- regardless of what they are -- you must first feel safe and understood. My treatment approach is first to provide you with a safe environment created through empathic and non-judgmental listening. Change -- even positive change -- is difficult. By understanding my clients' individual strengths and applying effective treatment approaches, change can happen. This is a process that evolves through a working relationship of open communication and trust. Identifying and changing those patterns of behavior is the focus of our work together.

You may be feeling stuck right now. Stuck in an unfulfilling relationship, stuck in an anxious emotional state, or stuck having the same arguments with your family members over and over again. I work collaboratively with my clients to identify maladaptive patterns so they can break the cycle of what hasn’t been working. I create a supportive environment so my clients can figure out what DOES work in order to build and maintain strong relationships with loved ones.

For many years, I have worked with both adults and youth providing Individual, Family, and Couples Therapy.
My intentions are to help others become empowered and discover their self worth. I am always respectful, genuine, and non-judgemental in my approach. Sometimes you just need to be heard to sort thoughts/life situations out, or you may be ready to start your journey to heal from the past. Perhaps it's time to learn strategies to manage daily stressors, or work on repairing family and/or couple issues. I hope to be able to provide the quality support needed.

I believe that once the therapeutic relationship has been built, space is created that allows for learning, understanding, and long-lasting positive change.
Understanding the value that therapy can bring to a person’s health and wellbeing, I strive to provide a safe space for everyone who enters my office. I have experience working with a diverse population providing individual, couples and family therapy. Although I may be an expert in the field, I know my clients are experts in their own lives. By working together, I hope changes can be made and for their goals to be reached.

I have extensive knowledge of and training in relationship issues, domestic violence, power and control, sexual abuse, and LGBTQ issues.
Congratulations! You took the first step towards happiness and self-improvement! Life can throw us curveballs leaving us to deal with difficult decisions. Inevitably, sometimes we get stuck resulting in unhappiness or feeling unfulfilled. Unexpected changes, toxic relationships, unhealthy attitudes, maladaptive coping habits, or just a general desire to lead a more productive life without knowing how to get there can also cause dismay. Managing these problems and getting back to enjoying life is an attainable goal and I'm happy to help by providing keen insight and the concrete tools needed to make positive and lasting change.

I also see couples as well as conduct work in groups.
For someone to undertake therapy is almost always fraught with anxiety. Who is this person I am trusting with my thoughts and feelings? Will she understand me? Everyone shares these questions and concerns in one form or another. The work I do with people is geared toward helping them to understand themselves better and to make better choices in their lives. I have many years of experience in working with people facing relationship difficulties, the challenge of using their skills to their best advantage, and in helping adults to navigate the challenges of parenting.

My experience ranges from psychotherapy with adults, teens, and couples to counseling trauma survivors with acute PTSD.
I have 25 years experience working productively with people of diverse backgrounds, ages, and sexual orientations. Our job together is to identify dysfunctional patterns that contribute to—even perpetuate—your difficulties. The main focus of therapy is to remove inner and outer obstacles that prevent you from reaching your goals and having better relationships. Please note, after years of counseling and assessment in offices, I‘ve recently moved into a different space: video. Active listening in a safe, private setting is foundational to this work. I’ve learned that the catalytic elements of good therapy can thrive via video too.

So first, I emphasize cultivating a trusting, respectful therapeutic relationship where you feel fully comfortable opening up about your inner life.
Everyone has the potential to make life-affirming changes. However, many of us move through our lives relying on unhealthy coping mechanisms. Learning to pause and reframe our responses to difficult situations can create better outcomes, deeper relationships, and more life satisfaction. You bring a unique sense of self determination into the therapeutic space. Using a strengths-based perspective, we’ll build upon the gifts you already possess to bust through the patterns of thinking and behavior keeping you from accomplishing your goals.

I have worked with individuals with a range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, and relationship/family issues.
My goal in working with patients is to provide a safe and calm environment to explore issues of concern to them. I understand that it is not always easy to speak about problems, but I believe that through careful listening and gentle inquiry, it is possible to begin to gain insight into feelings and behaviors. I very much respect the needs of each individual, and work in a way that recognizes that people have different ways of expressing themselves, and that it is critical to give people an opportunity to tell their own story in their own way, and in their own time.

I have held positions in several community-based programs where I engaged with a varied client base consisting of older adolescents, adults, couples and families.
My focus is on helping my clients gain the self-knowledge and self-awareness necessary to move forward to a more comfortable and productive place. No one approach fits every person or situation and the therapeutic process always begins with the person sitting in the room. My style is always respectful, interactive and dynamic and I am passionate about my work. The art and science of the therapeutic process encourages my creativity and spontaneity and complex issues are dealt with one step at a time, from both inner and outer perspectives.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
