My areas of interest include anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, grief/loss, eating disorders and relationship problems.
I believe strongly in the resilience of people, and that a healthy therapeutic relationship can promote trust, healing, and personal growth. I believe that successful therapy is predicated on having a strong therapeutic alliance; the connection and collaborative relationship between the client and therapist. Taking a strength-based perspective, I listen deeply and reflectively to sustain a non-judgmental and safe environment. I am passionate about helping clients fully process past experiences and thrive in relationships with themselves, others, and the world around them.

I help individuals, families, and couples to resolve issues with post-traumatic stress disorder, self-esteem, communication, feeling disconnected from others, assertiveness, adults who were adopted or had been in foster care, depression, grief, anxiety, ADHD, and issues with sexuality and identity.
What if at the end of your therapy session, you felt good, you felt empowered, and felt that you had a sense of direction? Counseling helps in various ways to work through the unspeakable events or emotions in a person's life. Clients are encouraged to create tangible goals for themselves to work on between sessions, which helps to create coping skills and continuity of healing/treatment outside of their sessions.

You are taking an important first step by investing in yourself with therapy. Let’s understand your experiences better and work toward developing happiness. I practice psychodynamic psychotherapy; which, essentially, means that I attend to the cause and not just the symptom. You do your best to say whatever comes to mind and I do the rest! I work in the areas of depression, anxiety, identity or stage-of-life issues, illness, loss, difficulty trusting your decisions, fluctuating self-esteem, career, and relationship struggles (with family, friends, or significant others).

My clients inspire me daily because they do the hard work of self-reflecting and exploring the messy parts of being a human in this complex world. I work best with folks who are tired of being in pain, and sick of the labels, expectations, and even diagnoses that have been placed on them. Therapy is a noble, intimate, and sometimes messy undertaking. Those who come to it may hope to relieve emotional pain, expand their understanding of themselves and their life narrative, or access more moments of joy and presence. Together, we can help you move towards what you might otherwise shy away from, understand the source of challenges, and find new ways of coping and being in the world. I work from a psychodynamic, attachment-based framework, and blend tangible skills to help alleviate your pain in the day-to-day and enhance your relationships.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
