We all procrastinate from time to time— that assignment isn’t that hard, the towels aren’t that dirty, the mail isn’t so urgent. Suddenly, it’s 9:30PM, and even though you used the day productively (reorganizing Tupperware and extra electronic cables), the one thing you needed to do didn’t get done. Procrastination isn’t about being lazy or mismanaging time; it’s a misunderstanding of internal motivations and anxieties. I can help you implement changes in your life to decrease avoidant (procrastinating) behaviors as well as the frustration and guilt that comes with it.

I have expertise and training in body-oriented , brain-centered therapies: Somatic Experiencing , SEP certified as well as certified in Somatic Touch ,IFS , Polyvagal Theory with which I combine psychodynamic psychotherapy - - which lead to not only emotional well - being but to physiological healing. With this combination of therapies, the therapeutic work is very effective. As my work embodies a naturalistic approach, the therapy tends to be short term and/or of shorter duration than most psychologies

I believe that psychotherapy is like getting a college degree in knowing yourself. The more aware we are of our motives, feelings, thoughts, actions & perceptions the less we are controlled by them & less likely to be stuck in old patterns that no longer work. I have helped many competent, intelligent men and women who wanted more out of life than financial success. They often would describe having a sense of feeling empty or not gratified. The process of psychotherapy facilitates increased self-awareness thereby increasing your ability to identify and follow your desires, which leads to fulfillment.

I specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy for the treatment of depression and anxiety, with the goal of improving your interpersonal relationships and sense of self. I take an active, empathetic stance as a therapist. Together we will identify thought patterns and coping strategies that may no longer be working for you the way they once did, and learn new techniques to maximize your quality of life. As we learn more about how you act/react to challenges, we will investigate how these styles developed, why they developed, and why they may no longer be successful in helping you navigate the demands of your life.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
