I believe meaningful change occurs when client and psychotherapist co-create a space that invites curiosity, empathy, and introspection. To transform psychic pain, we often have to look inward at our ways of thinking, feeling, and relating (to both self and others). I strive to facilitate this process in the context of a warm therapeutic relationship where those with whom I’m working feel safe and empowered. Through empathic listening, skilled interpretation, and embodied attunement to the "here and now" interactive process, I can help you resolve debilitating symptoms and impart greater meaning to your experiences / relationships.

You've come a long way. You're doing it. You're killing it at work or at school. You always have. But somehow, those old ways of thinking and feeling about yourself have followed despite your successes. At work, and with your friends, it looks like you have it all together. If anything, you're the first to lend a hand to others, even when you are completely running on empty. But something is missing, and its gnawing at you. You don't know what you want or need most of the time. We can figure that out together. We help patients find the permission they need to give themselves in order to live their most full, most authentic lives.

We are a team of licensed counselors passionate about working with clients who are seeking mental wellness. We can support you as you combat anxiety and depression, explore your identity, wade through life transitions, or learn to build healthier relationships. We can help you discover the strengths that nourish your inner resilience - because we do believe experiences of trauma, oppression, and neglect shape you, but we also believe you have an incredible ability to heal. It is for this reason we adopted the blossoming cherry tree as a symbol of our work - it reminds us of the ways that being open to change builds resilience.

Are you often self-critical, with a negative or harsh voice in your head? Do you experience shame, “not good enough-ness”, and unworthiness? Maybe you’ve had these feelings and thoughts for a long time, learned from past traumatic experiences or an unsupportive environment you grew up in. These experiences are painful and can stop you from living a more rewarding life. If this sounds familiar, I understand and I’m here to help. I specialize in working with anxiety, shame, self-criticism, relationship difficulties, life transitions, sexuality, and gender.

The word Sankofa means "one must go back in order to move forward". The idea is that in order to move forward into our highest potential, we must use the best of what was in our past. As a relational therapist who primarily works from a Solution-Focused approach, the word Sankofa reflects my belief that learning from our experiences in the past can contribute to healing in the present and future. I believe we are all capable of change through an effective solution. I have experience bringing about the changes that will lead to a healthier and happier life.

Relationships, work, sleep, and enjoyment are all negatively affected. With warmth and openness, I'll guide you as you gain insight into your interpersonal relationships, behaviors, and choices. I'll help you learn to trust your instincts and reduce self doubt so that decision making becomes easier. We work with depression, anxiety, bipolar, PTSD, eating disorders, bereavement, borderline, autism, ADHD, addiction, sexual abuse, DV, medical illnesses, relationship problems, LGTBQ+, adjustment disorders and forensic cases.
Footprints was started by a therapist who realized that often times the services provided to low socio-economic communities is lacking quality care. We noticed these communities were confronted with long wait times, disrespectful admins, and subpar treatment. The one and only purpose was to exploit the community for profit without providing the level of care deserved. Feel Better Therapy began from the inspiration to provide quality mental health care to the poorest of communities and treating the clients of this community the same way a rich patient would be treated in a clinic treating affluent clients.

Life isn’t always easy. Sometimes it can get you down and leave you in a space that is unfamiliar, or even scary. But life can also be brilliant, and I think the way to reach that point is to explore yourself and who you are. I aim to work with clients who are ready to take that step into living the lives that they want to; who are ready to face challenges that others, or even themselves, said they couldn’t get through. Therapy is about collaboration and I work from a person-centered approach, meaning, you set the tone and I'm here to support and offer guidance that align with you, your needs, and your goals.

Practicing psychoanalytically since 2012, I work with patients from a broad range of social, economic, and cultural backgrounds across a comparably broad range of issues ranging from anxiety and body-mediated distress to mourning, melancholia, and existential quandaries regarding work, intimacy, and sex. With a background in Freudian and Feminist theory—as well as literature, music, and the arts—I find therapy most productive and illuminating when it explores not only a person's conscious interests and challenges but their unconscious thoughts as well.

I use EMDR and integrative-psychodynamic therapy, with a focus on treating trauma. Currently, I am seeking members for two therapy groups (see below). These are "traditional groups," like you see in the movies. We don't teaching coping skills and they are not psychoeducational. This is a group experience where you can talk openly and honestly with your peers about your problems, hear their problems, and ask for and receive feedback. All groups are online; if we don't take your insurance, the out-of-pocket fee is $75. Call to see if one of these groups is right for you.

In my practice, therapy focuses on developing realistic solutions to external stressors while addressing internal conflict. Managing work, school, and relationships is difficult when your mental health is imbalanced and things becomes overwhelming. Though it may be challenging, acknowledging the past is essential to foster healing and personal growth. My goal is to have a safe space for you to seek healing, clarity, and have a listening ear

I aim to be authentic and open to the work and appreciate working with folks who are ready to grow and find some relief! I have worked with a broad range of folks who recognize that they have challenges but also recognize the power they have to live a full life in the way that they want to. We all face challenges and setbacks. I hope to work with folks who are prepared to take a look at themselves and recognize what isn't working. Everyone I work with is the expert in themselves and will remain in the driver's seat. Always.

"Transformation is a process, and as life happens there are tons of up and downs. It's a journey of discovery - there are moments on mountaintops and moments in deep valleys of despair"- Rick Warren. We all struggle with past or present situations that can get in the way of us living our lives wholeheartedly and that have an impact on the connection with oneself and others. Whenever you are going through a difficult time and you are confused about what is your next step, connecting with a trained therapist can be very helpful.

Borderline Personality (BPD) Therapists

What is the most successful approach to treating borderline personality disorder?

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is considered the gold standard of treatment for borderline personality disorder. An evidence-based treatment, it addresses the extreme emotional reactivity, the relationship difficulties, and the acts of self-harm that create so much distress for BPD patients. DBT is a comprehensive program that includes both regular individual psychotherapy sessions and weekly group sessions of skills training.

What happens in treatment of borderline personality disorder?

Treatment typically consists of weekly individual therapy sessions that last an hour and group skill-focused instructional sessions that may last up to two hours. Patients are typically given homework “assignments” in which they are asked to practice in their daily life the skills they acquire in therapy. Patients also keep a diary tracking their emotions and impulses as a way to know which situations are most problematic and to help them gain control over their own behavior. Difficult situations and feelings are typically reviewed in therapy sessions and more constructive solutions found.

What kinds of problems does BPD treatment help with?

DBT was initially developed to dampen the self-destructive impulses of chronically suicidal patients. It is now the treatment of choice for borderline personality disorder, a serious condition marked by extreme emotional reactivity, relationship instability, and self-injurious behaviors. Treatment of BPD helps patients tolerate the flux of emotions without acting on them, often with a specific focus on tolerating negative emotions. DBT addresses the core problems of BPD—fear of abandonment, low self-esteem, and impulsivity.

What is the goal of treatment in borderline personality disorder?

The goal of treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) is to relieve the extreme emotional distress that patients experience—to curb their emotional reactivity, to minimize their inclination to self-harm, and to reduce their impulsivity. Toward these ends, patients are not only taught an array of new coping skills and techniques for emotional regulation, they are given opportunities to practice them. Another major goal of treatment is interpersonal effectiveness; patients learn and problem-solve ways to effectively communicate in relationships, especially how to ask for what they need as a way to minimize hurt feelings.
