Individuals who come to therapy demonstrate courage as they seek positive change in their lives. In an effort to honor the courage it takes to heal and move through any obstacle, I believe it is essential to create a therapeutic environment that is collaborative and accepting. My clients tell me that as a result, they feel safe, supported and understood. For those who struggle with relationships, intimacy, trust, confidence issues, depression or anxiety-- this welcoming environment enhances therapy because individuals know that they are not alone. Working as a team encourages hope, self-trust and acceptance of one's strengths.

I love to help individuals make major life transitions or deal with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, chronic illness, caregiving.
Many in today's world feel disconnected. You may feel disconnected from yourself, from those you love and even perhaps from a sense of any greater purpose in your life. What I love to do is help individuals, and families reconnect and hopefully come into a greater fullness of life.

Ever felt stuck at a crossroads, yearning for change but haunted by the nagging feeling that your efforts just aren't hitting the mark? Whether it's navigating life's twists and turns, exploring career paths, wrestling with the weight of anxiety and depression, or facing body image issues, it's no walk in the park—especially when dealing with neurodivergent disorders like autism or other physical conditions that add another layer of complexity. These challenges can make the journey feel like an uphill climb, leaving self-belief a distant memory.

I help professional women assert themselves in the workplace and in their personal lives. There may be a fear of being judged or negatively labeled that keeps you from letting your light shine. When you are not able to be the full expression of yourself, you are often left feeling dissatisfied, disregarded, and overlooked. These feelings easily turn into resentment and can leave you feeling anxious or even depressed.

I have always loved to read a good story, I think stories can reflect wholeness in their beginnings, middles, and ends. It's all too often that we find ourselves in the middle of the story, feeling disconnected from ourselves and unsure if our story will ever have an ending that feels good and whole. I believe that counseling offers a space to "speak the unspeakable" parts of our stories and invite healing into the darkest places. As we create a safe and trusting relationship, I hope to come alongside you and look inward together with compassion and curiosity.

My experience includes providing care for individuals with depression & anxiety, trauma, emotional distress and impulsivity, grief, and substance use.
Seeking and engaging in therapy can be a daunting task for most people. Many of us invalidate our problems and fault ourselves for not fixing them or feeling better immediately, yet we are lost in the distress of our issues and symptoms. If this is the case, then I commend you for seeking support! I believe in talk therapy because it provides you the space to find needed perspective on your life, and from there, you can take actionable and brave steps towards healing. My goal as a therapist is to provide you that space, understand your life and the issues that brought you here.

Let's face it: life is messy. We are all broken people living in a broken world and doing the best that we can. And sometimes our best just doesn't seem to be good enough. We can find ourselves disillusioned and heartbroken and yet we don't know how we wound up here. We long for more out of this life and yet we don't know how to get there. Whether you are grieving a loss, struggling to make a decision, or simply find yourself stuck in a rut, counseling can help you understand not just the origin of your problems but also assist you in developing practical coping skills and solutions.

Everyone wants to live feeling fulfilled and happy; that is a universal truth deeply rooted in our human nature. While we all share that truth, figuring out exactly what makes us feel fulfilled and happy isn’t always easy. Sometimes we find ourselves feeling just a little bit off. Other times we find ourselves completely lost, deeply unhappy, and consistently unfulfilled. Whatever the case may be, experiencing meaningful and lasting positive change is entirely possible - and that is exactly what I help my clients achieve in the warmest, non-judgmental, and productive atmosphere possible.

Hello and welcome! I am excited to support you or your child through this stressful experience of being human at times. I believe healing begins by tuning in to ourselves and becoming more aware of our powerful and intuitive body systems. These systems let us know when something is wrong and if we feel safe in a challenging situation. By learning our body/brain connection, I have felt and observed the power it has in improving regulation and managing overwhelming emotions.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
