I have trained in a number of settings including psychosocial oncology (cancer); college counseling centers; and parenting wellness centers where I have worked with women struggling with postpartum adjustment, anxiety, or depression.
I feel that I work best with motivated individuals who are curious about themselves, their relationships, and the kinds of struggles which interfere with their fully enjoying their lives.

I have over 20 years of experience treating clients suffering from relationship or financial issues, depression, anxiety, addiction, life transitions such acculturation, job change, or retirement.
In my practice, by face to face sessions or by using online Telehealth confidential therapy, I work with clients to feel comfortable and to form a bond, based on trust, that will foster a relaxed positive therapeutic interaction. It is important to me that, from the very first session, the client can communicate his or her story and feels heard, so that I can understand the presenting issues, communicate hope, and formulate mutually agreeable goals to achieve in our work together.

Beginning the search for a therapist can feel daunting, intimidating or overwhelming. I work with clients who are seeking to deeply embody their questions, reflections and emotions through dance-movement therapy (primarily authentic movement) and arts-based exploration (visual arts and writing). The clients I work with define themselves as deep feelers and imaginative thinkers.

There is not a singular source to our suffering. Turmoil can originate in, and travel through, our bodies, minds, communities, families, and sociopolitical systems. Often, we respond to inner turmoil in two extreme ways. We may excessively worry, attempt to control, develop repetitive, troubling thoughts, or just obsess about our lives. Or we may do the opposite; avoid, isolate, refuse contact with situations we perceive to be dangerous or distressing, or say 'it is hopeless,' and check out. Therapy can help us gain access to our grief and pain while developing the wisdom that comes with renewed commitment to our lives.

My ideal client is someone who thinks they're not enough or who holds back or hides their best selves. I enjoy working with over-thinkers, worriers, and perfectionists as well as clients who have many reasons to be happy but aren't. I am particularly adept at helping people who feel "different" learn to find their truth and finally own and celebrate their uniqueness. By removing the layers that often bury our authentic selves a sense of ease can replace the constant churn of worrying, and confidence can replace self doubt simply by updating old beliefs that no longer serve us so we can finally relax into who we really are.

I comfortably treat adults, young adults, millenials, college students, and adolescents with trauma, grief, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, OCD, and self-esteem issues.
Welcome! Meaningful change and lasting healing happen through the co-creation of safe therapeutic spaces. Together, we can develop your capacity not only to feel better, but to be healthier. Understanding yourself is a powerful source of transformation and development. However, insight alone is not always enough to create psychological healing. I work with people to generate deep insight but also to create a new way of being and feeling in the world. For these purposes, I often incorporate both experiential and mind/brain/body therapies.

I am a licensed psychologist who is trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Patients who come to me are looking to understand the significance and meaning of their most difficult-to-solve problems—problems like anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relational struggles, and self-harm. They are often patients who have not had success with short-term and/or cognitive therapies, and they have a sense that their struggles signify something more than mere dysfunction—that their problems point to something unique and unknown about themselves.

I've worked with clients experiencing significant life transitions, relationship stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, questions of identity and self-esteem, and clients exploring topics of meaning and purpose in life.
Therapy is the gift of time set aside each week to pause, acknowledge how you’re feeling, and connect with yourself in a deeper way. In a time of unprecedented levels of fear, loss, and loneliness, it’s more important than ever to develop meaningful ways to be present with our emotions and learn new ways to soothe and nurture ourselves in the midst of painful feelings. I specialize in relational psychotherapy, a type of therapy that focuses on the quality of your relationships, both with yourself and with others. I also draw on psychodynamic, family systems, trauma-informed, attachment, social justice and anti-oppressive theories.

This fire will not burn you; it will only burn what you are not. - Mooji I love this quote as applied to the therapeutic process. Many of us feel instinctively that we have a core self inside who is wise and who knows what is best for us, yet things seem to keep going sideways in the course of our everyday lives. I work with clients to manage mood disorders, recover from trauma, or cut down or stop substance use (or to stay in recovery). I also work with clients who are exploring alternative approaches to their healing such as the medicinal use of psychedelics, in order to support integration of their experiences.

Not accepting new clients
I'm NOT taking new clients right now....Creating emotional intelligence involves many things: understanding mood changes and why certain circumstances create anxiety; communicating better in relationships and expressing feelings more positively; building skills as a parent or understanding what it means to go from couple to family. If we are in transition, in gender or in life purpose, we want to create a firmer sense of identity and direction. We want insight and the ability to create a future unbound to a traumatic past. We want to create new patterns of behavior and thinking that enhance our connection to others.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
