I believe that my friendly and knowledgeable approach to my clients enables new insights, and behaviors that improve people's lives. I invite you to call me for an appointment soon.

My approach to therapy is depth-oriented, collaborative, and attuned to embodied experience. Bringing attention to both present experience and past dynamics, we will work together to become more aware of the stories and values that shape your sense of self and inform your symptoms. We aim to create a sturdy container for deepening your capacity to lean with curiosity into discomfort, difference, and the unknown as it shows up in your life. To support this process, I draw on psychoanalytic and emotion-focused training, mindfulness practices, and somatically engaged Jungian dreamwork.

Accepting new clients at this time, for telehealth. When you are overwhelmed and overcommitted it can be difficult to cut through the noise and find a path towards balance and happiness. I help clients who are feeling that things “aren’t quite right” in their lives. Whether it’s work, relationships, or your sense of self-worth, counseling can help. Clients say they feel supported and that I take the time to understand them. It’s from that place of trust that we collaborate to help you tune into your inner strengths, tap into inherent skills, and explore perspectives to move forward in your life with more confidence.

Congratulations for reaching out for support and taking the first step towards the life that you want to create. The world that we live in can be challenging, and sometimes we need help beyond our families and social circles. I use a strengths-based approach to work with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, and eating disordered behaviors. I believe in the use of mindfulness practices to strengthen the mind-body connection and believe that self care is the basis for being able to support ourselves and ultimately being able to share our lives with others.

I utilize evidence-based practices drawing on Cognitive/Behavioral therapy, Mindfulness and psychodynamic approaches, to assist you in understanding and addressing issues that prevent you from living a “life worth living.
Therapy is an experience of collaboration and trust. I tailor my approach to each individual’s needs and preferences. I provide a safe, non-judgmental environment and work from a strength-based perspective. I am interactive, not shying away from giving feedback, but fundamentally believe each individual has the capacity to set their own goals and measure their own success. I have extensive experience treating adults with a variety of disorders such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and with those suffering from maladaptive coping strategies.

Focused on healing through trauma-informed, body-based care and grounded in family systems theory, I draw on a range of counseling approaches including; psychodynamic, transpersonal, existential, expressive, mindfulness, mind-body, behavioral (DBT and CBT). Together we sojourn toward self-awareness and compassion for self. Emblematic moments from the past may have become conditioned responses to the present. We focus both on here and now and historical events. TAT (Tapas Acupressure Technique), mindfulness, sensorimotor psychotherapy and EMDR-Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing help re-program stored arousal in the body.

I currently have a wait list of about 30 days. It's certainly not easy to keep all the "plates spinning" all the time, is it? We all get discouraged, distracted or thrown off track sometimes, especially when we have big changes happening. Counseling can help you learn new strategies to stay focused on what's important. I work with adults who experience depression, anxiety, relationship stress, and changes that come with age. I primarily provide in-person counseling, but also offer telehealth in some circumstances.

I am a relational therapist working with individuals, couples, and those in non-traditional relationships. Seeking support from psychotherapy is a sign of inner strength and hope, even when it feels as if ones world has turned inside-out. Life rarely allows any of us a free pass; births and deaths, personal crises, relationship troubles, childhood trauma, etc. may meet any one of us head-on at sometime during our lives. Seeking help from psychotherapy is a worthwhile path to take when ways of coping no longer seem effective. I nurture the possibility of deeper understanding and self-knowledge by creatively engaging the whole person.

Your sleep has become irregular. You are eating too many cookies or you don't feel like eating. It is hard to get up in the morning. The energy you once had has become a memory. Your friends seem to be doing much better than you are, so you can't confide in them about how you feel. You worry about your spouse, about your children, about the economy, or about your job. You wonder if you are drinking too many lattes or glasses of wine. It is hard to concentrate, to get just one thing done. And you don't know why you have these thoughts, these worries, these sleepless nights.

In over 30 years of clinical practice, I have learned to apply a range of therapeutic models, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing), Emotion Focused Therapy, and self-regulatory skill training, choosing the model to best suit the individual and what he/she hopes to achieve.
Generally, it is discomfort that brings us into therapy. Discomfort (anxiety, depression, stress) is borne of an almost limitless array of life circumstances: challenging relationships, problematic perceptions of self, coping with life/work stressors, and the uncertainties we are all facing in today’s world. This universal condition of discomfort, as one famous therapist said; finds us “in the soup together.” As a consequence of our shared humanity, it is in relationship that we humans most commonly find the opportunity for deepened self-understanding and abiding change.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
