Whether my clients are navigating parenting issues, the transition from college to the work place, career changes or grieving a significant relationship I aim to create a space where clients can freely explore the depths of their experience.
Therapy is a collaborative process. I help my clients clarify their goals, and together we identify and explore conscious and unconscious obstacles that keep them frustrated. I utilize insight, cognitive behavioral strategies and techniques based in Somatic Experiencing to help clients work through their difficulties.

The collective grief of the pandemic has left us facing anxiety and pain we may have already been managing before, but it's now magnified by the loss of so much of what we remember having. Emerging feelings can include grief, depression, relationship issues, parenting stress, and even anger. This can leave us feeling isolated and alone as we struggle to wade through the difficulties of our new every day.

My experience has given me insight into BIPOC and multiracial couples and people navigating identity, race, intimacy, parenting, educational systems and the unique stressors of living in the tristate NY/NJ/CT area.
For 15 years, I was a NYC public school teacher working in specialized high schools and that experience has informed my understanding of how our intersectional identities influence how comfortably we move in our world today. I believe that personal, cultural and societal narratives can influence who we are and what we believe we can achieve. I use an Anti-Bias Trauma informed lens to help all people navigate life’s provocations. I am also an avid gamer and use video & tabletop games, RPGs and other staples of Geek culture in my work with some clients to build empowering metaphors of their life experience.

Life is worth living when we feel authentic and genuine, and engage in meaningful relationships. Sadness, grief, disappointment, hurt, and loss are all-natural human emotions. Feeling chronically anxious, depressed, inadequate, or unlovable are not. These unrelenting feelings come from an injury (or injuries) that hasn’t healed. Regardless of where your emotional injury comes from, you can learn to regulate your reactions, heal these wounds, take care of yourself, & connect to your sense of meaning and purpose. The more you live in alignment with your values and what is meaningful to you, the better you will feel.

The decision to enter therapy is courageous and important. Removing obstacles (such as anxiety and depression) that prevent well being and overall happiness, creating and enhancing relational experiences, coping with trauma, grief and loss or reaching professional goals are worthy and healthy desires. Whatever the precipitant to ones decision, we all have a need to be respected, heard, understood, and to feel safe, cared for and truly "gotten". It is both my belief and years of experience that tells me these conditions are necessary for long lasting, transformational change to occur. Together, we will actively work on helping you achieve your therapeutic goals

Current openings as of May 2024 for in-person or zoom. A life well-lived is a creative process, and I help those I work with to realize their own talents and potential, even in times of major distress. Some look for short-term support during a time of loss or uncertainty. Others get into deeper work to address older wounds and patterns. Maybe you just need to talk and see what happens. Whatever your situation, it's your life, and I would focus on what works for you.

Finding the right therapist can be a tough and even daunting experience. It's difficult to tell if a therapist is right for you based simply on a blurb and a photo. I don't claim to know that we'll be a perfect fit but if I believe I can help you, I'll tell you. If not, I'll refer you to someone who I think can. I regard myself as a warm and compassionate therapist who is supportive as well as direct and challenging when required. I am passionate about my work and find it fulfilling and energizing.

Humans are creatures of connection. When we experience multiple events throughout our lifetime in which we do not feel safe to share our truth with others, we often close ourselves off from love and connection. What would happen if you were able to feel seen and heard? What would you say if you were given safe space to share your truth? How would your life change if you were emotionally available to hear others around you and allow them into your life? My therapeutic intention is to support you as you step into a more holistic and authentic version of yourself helping you to actualize your fullest potential.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
