"I have walked through many lives, some of them my own, and I am not who I was, though some principle of being abides, from which I struggle not to stray." These lines, from "The Layers", by Stanley Kunitz, hint at the themes we will explore if you decide to enter psychotherapy with me: Who have you been, and who are you now? What principle of being has shaped your life's journey thus far? Where and when did you disregard this principle? And how may I support you in your effort to recognize and honor your most authentic self?

What is the story of you? Are you succeeding despite struggles with depression, anxiety, anger, or other difficulties? Do you feel stuck, perhaps not making the progress you want to make, or not being sure what progress would look like? Maybe you are moving forward but are concerned that something will get in your way in the future. I listen deeply so that we can appreciate what helps you feel spontaneous and alive each day. I utilize different traditions ranging from Freud's "talking cure" to CBT. I would love to see what we can co-create together. Give me a call.

My hope is to provide a gentle and affirming therapeutic space where those I work with can be their most free and authentic selves. Using a trauma-informed lens and culturally sensitive methods and modalities, I offer a safe environment in which others can feel wholly supported as they tap into their natural gifts and skills to meet their unique needs, navigate life stressors and challenges, and find healing within themselves. I am very client-led as I believe each person is the expert of their own life. The relationship we build is sacred and I honor the identities and experiences each individual bring with them into the room.

I am a Mental Health Counselor, who has a Masters Degree in Applied Behavioral Psychology and Advanced Certification in Mental Health Counseling. I offer my clients psychotherapy with an integrative approach, utilizing different theoretical frameworks to individualize a therapeutic plan for every person, group, and couple I work with. I primarily focus on CBT, Person-Centered, DBT, Relational, Psychodynamic, mindfulness, and meditation, but offer other techniques listed below. My own philosophy is based on a holistic approach, so I do not always focus on diagnoses or pathology. However, I do recognize that sometimes it is needed.

With a background in LGBTQ+ public health, I am sensitive to the challenges and stressors that come with living outside cisgender/hetero norms. I also value subjugated knowledge - the wisdom we possess from not fitting into the dominant culture.

Too often, we feel we have become mired in our life—in our relationships, our sense of ourselves, our work, how to deal with a life transition, or our emotional experience. As your therapist, my goal is first and foremost to create an atmosphere of safety and trust, in which you can speak your feelings and thoughts freely and honestly. Then, together we can explore the unique experiences that have led to your current situation, and understand those behavioral patterns and ways of relating to ourself and others that may have been necessary solutions to past situations but now have become problematic.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship is fundamental to the healing process. In our work together, we will co-create a safe, non-judgmental, restorative space. Through genuine warmth, compassion, & humor, my hope is that you’ll feel ready to explore and embark on your unique journey. As someone with a strong spiritual foundation, I empower individuals to tap into their inner healing intelligence as they navigate their past and present life experience. My passion lies in supporting attachment wound healing through reparative connection and increasing awareness and understanding of how trauma gets stored in the body.

When you look for a therapist, you want someone you trust. Trust is the most important aspect of a good client/therapist match. It's a good idea to come in for a few sessions and get a feeling for the therapist, and I welcome you to do so. After you feel comfortable, you can start identifying the blocks that prevent you from living the best life you can live. I've helped people with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, histories of abuse, grief and loss, and people who've been hospitalized to break through their feelings of shame.

In particular, I specialize in helping people overcome depression and anxiety, change repeated unproductive behaviors, cope with medical problems, overcome addiction, cope with grief/loss and improve their relationships with others (including couples therapy).
I see psychotherapy as a dialogue between two people that can yield great personal growth and transformation. I aim to promote a safe, supportive and trusting psychotherapeutic relationship that facilitates the exploration of areas of difficulty, hurt, and vulnerability. My patients typically gain the following from our work together: insights into their own unproductive behaviors, new perspectives, increased confidence and self acceptance. I work collaboratively with my patients. I ask probing questions and point out inconsistencies. I also provide feedback, advice, insights, observations and opinions.

The people I treat often begin therapy because they are in emotional pain or are unsatisfied with some aspects of their lives. They might be seeking better, more intimate relationships, more fulfilling careers and financial security, or relief from self-defeating thoughts, feelings, or behaviors such as anxiety, depression or addiction. My approach is individualized, and I will use the treatment approach that best suits each individual's particular needs in reaching their goals.

I specialize in working with individuals and couples who are struggling with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. As these experiences look different for everyone, I focus on getting to know each client beyond the surface - taking the time to understand who they are, where they come from, and what their goals are.

Relationships that make us feel safe, understood and validated are necessary for growth. When we can trust that someone won’t judge us, we’re able to explore all parts of ourselves with them. Together with my clients, we create the safety in our relationship that encourages creativity, curiosity, and healing. With a foundation of trust, we can work on tuning into your needs and giving you the tools to get those needs met. Too often, we receive messages that tell us our experiences and boundaries are not valid. I look forward to challenging these messages together!

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
