Whether you feel particularly drawn to exploring your own narrative through storytelling; intentional reflection centering the identities you (and/or those within your lineage) may hold; or mindfulness meditation; I encourage you to continue your journey towards healing in whatever ways feel most aligned/ authentic to you.
Although the energy of transition and healing is in the air for so many of us, undergoing the initial steps towards seeking support can be difficult. Thank you for leaning into this process and exploring some of the ways we may be able to work and move in partnership towards a space of spiritual, emotional, and mental wellness. During our initial sessions, we will focus on weaving together, the elements of your lived experience that inform your current thought process; the identities that inform how you move through the world; and which will ultimately support in outlining a set of intentions and goals for our time together.

My orientation to therapy is primarily psychodynamic, while also incorporating mindfulness-based, solution-focused and supportive techniques.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in individual psychotherapy with adults and older adolescents. As a therapist, I take an active, supportive and collaborative approach, adapting treatment to the needs of the individual. I aim to create a warm and non-judgmental therapeutic setting, where it is safe to explore experiences, feelings and thoughts. Through developing curiosity, self-understanding and self-compassion, old patterns can be loosened and new choices become possible. This is a creative and collaborative process that may incorporate practical problem-solving as well as exploration and deepening of awareness.

I've been a practicing psychotherapist in the New York City metropolitan area for over 25 years. Most of my clients are adults with relationship problems, work issues, anxiety or depression. Some have histories of trauma. My approach to therapy is generally a psychodynamic one with a focus on the here and now. I also use mindfulness, hypnosis, ego state therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy as tools in treatment. I have found that this eclectic approach is helpful to clients as one size does not fit all.

While my approach is primarily psychodynamic and relational, I can draw on harm-reduction, mindfulness-based, cognitive-behavioral, and dialectical-behavioral techniques to uniquely match the needs and level of functioning of my clients to meet them where they are.
I view psychotherapy as a deeply personal transformational process to growth regardless of where you are in life, whether in a crisis, a relationship issue, curious on who you are, or suffer a mental illness. I specialize on relationship problems, depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, sexuality, life transitions, and multicultural issues. Our therapist-patient relationship will be unique, non-judgmental, and supportive. We will build a trusting space where it will be safe and comfortable to share your experiences, feelings, and thoughts. By exploring unfulfilling aspects of your life, we can work together towards a positive change.

I offer mindfulness practice to help calm anxiety and enter more deeply into a client’s sense of self.
Therapy provides a confidential and non-judgmental space to explore one’s current life situations and ongoing patterns such as how we relate to ourselves and others. Therapy is a source of support when life events overwhelm us or conditions such as anxiety or depression affect our well being. We may discover in therapy that beliefs or ways of behaving no longer serve us and new ideas and ways of being can be discovered and learned that bring greater ease and enjoyment to our lives

I combine Psychodynamic principles with Strengths Based therapy, Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you attain emotional well-being, improve your interpersonal relationships, and develop coping skills.
Step 1 is finding the right therapist for you. I encourage you to speak with a few to see how you might work together. Then let your gut decide. My job is to provide a safe space for you to be fully heard and supported, no matter what you are facing. Anxious? Depressed? Lost? I can help you to better understand your feelings and make sense of them in a new way. We will work together to identify your personal barriers - the challenges that prevent you from moving forward and living the life you've envisioned for yourself. Whether your goals are short or long-term, my holistic approach is designed to meet your individual needs.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
