Effective psychotherapy alleviates suffering, builds stronger personal and professional relationships and helps you achieve your goals and expand your capacity to live a fulfilling life. Through our work you will gain a deeper and more meaningful understanding of yourself and how you engage with others. Together we will explore what has led to the establishment of your relational patterns. Therapy works through collaboration; we work together to understand your experiences, memories and relationships in order to create change. I believe people are stronger, happier and more successful when they are connected to those around them.

Yidong imagine everyone as a piece of melody. Each melody has its basic tone, no matter what the lyric might be about. The tone is mystery to have access to and fix, where despite you can add different instruments to cover it and change lyrics for your melody, it still somehow feels the same. You may be feeling confused and tired, or frustrated and trapped. Instead devoting all the effort to change your tone, I am here to help provide insights and reflective attitude towards any tone that you bring into our space, that you resent, or confused about.

Life is hard. And, sometimes we lose our bearings along the way. There are times when the usual answers aren't enough and we must turn inward to search more deeply for the source of the patterns that keep us stuck and that make us suffer more than we need to. The path out of our darkness requires leaning into it rather than running from it. It requires going through it and doing the work that can lead us to the other side--to a more authentic and fulfilling life.

Vitality, growth, love, empathy, and meaning are essential to healthy functioning and a sense of well-being. We often create these gratifying experiences through an authentic and positive connection with ourselves and others. However, sometimes these connections are hindered due to difficult life experiences, such as loss of a loved one, career and life transitions, addiction, divorce, or relationship concerns. These struggles can lead to feeling down, isolated, anxious, and confused about how to move forward. I am here to help.

My goal as a therapist is to create a safe space that is supportive and non judgmental. I want you to feel heard and understood. I believe the relationship between the therapist and client is the foundation of therapy. As a therapist and dietitian, I believe the journey to mental health involves caring for ourselves in a holistic manner. How we think, what we eat, how we move impacts our mental well-being. Problems may arise when thoughts become distorted and negatively impact ones view of self and life. Therapy provides the opportunity to explore these challenges and create thought patterns that promotes self-growth and healing.

Therapy offers a transformative experience that can lead to a more satisfying and meaningful life. Starting therapy takes courage and finding a therapist who fits can be difficult. A good therapeutic relationship should feel like a safe place where all parts of you are welcome. My goal is to provide a secure and supportive environment where you feel seen, heard, and understood. I approach therapy with an open mind and a commitment to deep listening, compassion, and insightful exploration.

I provide a warm and safe yet dynamic environment in which my clients express their innermost thoughts, gain insight, heal wounds and learn to live with more confidence, humor and joy. With 25 years of supervising and clinical experience with children, adults and couples, I am able to quickly attune and help clients feel at ease. I listen closely to my client’s thoughts, fears and dreams while helping them to make meaningful connections that strengthen their sense of self. While deep inner work generally takes time, some positive change can be anticipated rapidly.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
