We come to therapy because we want to experience our lives as more satisfying. It is my job to provide a space that facilitates the changes you desire. With change there are growing pains. In a sense, I offer pain management. Whether you go into the past, or concentrate on the present, we focus on removing what isn't working for you and replacing it with tools and experiences that support you in your life. This is done in a self-accepting, non-judgmental way. I also offer Tipi, a technique that can eliminate specific anxieties, phobias, and impulsive responses.

My approach is warm, active, and compassionate. I work collaboratively with my patients so that discovery can unfold, and connections can be made between past influences and current patterns. My work focuses on building a stronger sense of self in a supportive and empathic environment where it feels safe to explore and challenge ways of thinking that have led to road blocks and unwanted emotional distress.

My multicultural background and extensive training and education in different fields of psychology allow me to apply a multidisciplinary approach while appreciating your personal and social needs, values, tradition, and cultural circumstances.

Feeling alone, anxious, sad, hurt, or depressed in this uncertain world? It's difficult to bear alone. This often interferes with every day life, if not peace of mind. Maybe I can help you. Practicing for many years as a psychotherapist, I have come to know what a difference it makes when you have a trusted empathic person to talk to. I provide a safe, confidential space and hope to form that empathic understanding bond with you. It is there that you can discuss your fears and/or anxieties, and find resolutions and options in your life where you feared there were none.

My areas of expertise are comprised of a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, couples and family therapy (including families with dysfunctional members), infidelity, loss, parenting issues, relationship conflicts, and work-related difficulties.
I may not be the right therapist for everyone. A successful therapeutic relationship begins with a rapport between the therapist and their patient. Often, patients will meet me and we have an instant empathic connection. We both have a gut feeling it will develop into a good working alliance. My goal is to help patients become more aware of their obstacles, to find ways to resolve their inner conflicts, and make better choices. Patients are often unaware of how deeply other people and experiences have impacted them.

I can support and guide you through whatever is troubling you at this time, may it be the loss of a loved one, generalized anxiety, or trauma from your past.
Do you, like so many others, struggle with anxiety? Know that you are not alone -- anxiety is one of the greatest sources of suffering in life. Or perhaps have you lost a loved one and are caught in the web of your grief?

Many of us spend a long time running away from the true essence of ourselves. We abandon ourselves to be accepted by others or praised by a society that wants a specific version of us. This ultimately leads us with pain that we find various ways to numb. Together, we can explore, feel, and heal this pain.

Are you struggling with interpersonal problems that have to do with work or with intimate relationships? Do you feel stuck with ongoing, unrewarding self defeating thoughts and actions? I'd like to help you move forward. Though it is important to understand why you are where you are, it is more important to move from that frustrating place into a more happy and self gratified life.

Life is complex, and you might experience a gap between what you want and where you are at. If you are feeling stuck, anxious, perhaps experiencing difficulty making important decisions, or feeling that your life is not moving in the direction you want; psychotherapy might be a space for you to evolve in the way you desire by learning about yourself and ways to transition your current circumstances.

I work with adults, children and adolescents. I use a psycho-dynamic, psychoanalytically informed approach that seeks to understand how primary early experience and relationships have impacted and influenced current self experience. The goal of treatment is to deconstruct problematic relational patterns and self experience and to achieve strengthened connection to one's unique, authentic self. I currently train at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
