Do you want to create more thriving relationships in your life? As human beings we all have a desire for healthy connection with others- it’s necessary in order to grow. I believe that therapy is a journey of self-discovery, problem solving, establishing healthy boundaries, and a time for self-reflection. Therapy can help people find solutions to everyday problems, develop thriving relationships with your children, parents, spouses/partners. Therapy can help you manage uncertainty about whether or not to stay in a relationship or identify stumbling blocks preventing you from being where you want to be in your life.

Eating disorders can be all encompassing and can start to take over so many different aspects of your life. It becomes hard to do anything without hearing the eating disorder’s disapproving voice in your head making comments about your food intake, your body, and most painfully, who you are as a person. This voice is not you. We can work together to help you fight back and regain your identity. You do not need to have an eating disorder for us to work together, I also work with those struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, life transitions, trauma, relationships, and identity.

When clients first reach out to me, they often feel depressed, anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed but are unsure about what steps to take to feel better. Clients also reach out because they want to further their understanding of their emotional experience or need help navigating challenging situations or relationships. And then there are others who feel stuck and seek to change patterns in their lives.

You might feel confused, anxious, drained, or blocked. You want to show up as your most authentic and unique self in daily life, relationships, and the world, but it seems like you just can't "get there" alone. I know aspects of the academic and corporate worlds can impact mental health making past and present challenges more difficult to overcome. I provide a caring, inclusive, and non judgmental environment. I hold space for you to show up as you are and offer the support you need to thrive.

As a clinician, I am focused on helping clients find a life of meaning and value. Often times in our pain there is incredibly useful information about what's important to us. As humans, we have evolved to move away from physical pain, to escape it: and for most types of pain, those methods work! But for emotional pain, avoidance not only doesn’t get rid of our pain and suffering, it often amplifies it. In discovering how each individual client finds meaning in their lives, we ground ourselves in the willingness to walk toward our pain, rather than away from it. It is in this space that we find healing and meaningful change.

We all have anxieties. We have defenses against hurt that we build up over time, that become solidified into unproductive patterns of behavior and prevent us from living our best lives. We all, from time to time, lose connection with ourselves and those around us, as we try and do the million things that daily life demands of us. It’s okay. You’re not alone.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
