Finding your true, authentic self can be daunting. You may feel stuck, confused, or overwhelmed by life experiences. Together we can discover the motivations, tools, and skills which will allow you to be content, more-productive, and less anxious. In a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space, you and I can explore your patterns of thinking and feeling, and the meanings behind them. We will remove obstacles which get in your way. Client's often tell me that my warm, non-judgmental approach and careful listening help them to feel safe, freeing them to understand themselves in ways they've never considered.

Do you want to create more thriving relationships in your life? As human beings we all have a desire for healthy connection with others- it’s necessary in order to grow. I believe that therapy is a journey of self-discovery, problem solving, establishing healthy boundaries, and a time for self-reflection. Therapy can help people find solutions to everyday problems, develop thriving relationships with your children, parents, spouses/partners. Therapy can help you manage uncertainty about whether or not to stay in a relationship or identify stumbling blocks preventing you from being where you want to be in your life.

Are you considering a major life change or looking for something different for yourself? Perhaps this brings about increased levels of stress and anxiety. I work with many people trying to do the same and have found that process of realizing goals and figuring out the next steps can lie in the smaller moments of your past. I can help you identify and leverage those experiences to discover your own inner resources and strengths. Together, we can explore how to apply those skills to meet new challenges and move forward. Whether you need to practice a bit more or adapt to a new task, therapy with me is a safe space to do just that.

I like to help others heal from suffering - whether it be understanding and managing emotions, processing trauma, reducing negative thinking patterns, getting unstuck, changing habits, letting go, achieving personal goals, communicating or relating better, building coping skills and resilience, etc. I take a holistic approach in my work and integrate talk therapy, mind-body skills (breathing, relaxation, yoga nidra, qigong, etc.), and healthy food/sleep/movement practices. My therapy style is warm, thoughtful, attuned, open, strengths-based, collaborative.

I specialize in working with individuals of all ages who are navigating illness, grief, loss, trauma, and professional burnout. My passion for supporting children, teens, young adults and families impacted by a life-limiting medical diagnosis is informed by the years I spent as a pediatric social worker. Therapy is a powerful means of restoring wellness and creating lasting change. I have experienced this in my own life and enjoy seeing this unfold for my clients. I am passionate about working with clients to develop self-compassion and emotional intelligence, and establishing a greater sense of groundedness and self-esteem. I am trained in EMDR and often use this therapeutic approach to significantly reduce distress associated with trauma and other adverse life experiences. EMDR can also be helpful for clients in breaking free from stuck patterns of thinking and feeling that are resistant to traditional talk therapy approaches.

Life can be overwhelming and you are not alone in your struggles. Though reaching out for help can feel scary, making this choice is often transformative. You deserve support and to have hope in your life. Therapy with me is a process where this happens and I find it an honor to walk beside and gently guide you through whatever you may be experiencing. I believe in basing our therapeutic relationship on acceptance, genuineness, and empathy. I work with all types of people--children, adolescents, and adults--who are struggling with the external, internal, or both in a non-judgmental, strengths-based, trauma-informed manner.

Psychotherapy is a process of rebalancing yourself. When something is awry in your life-in relationships, career, emotion, health-your life loses its equilibrium. But as we construct your story in the safety of the therapeutic dialogue, we discover themes and patterns that help you articulate who you really are and what you truly want in your life.

I specialize in "overthinking" and am currently accepting new clients. In addition to my clinical training I have an extensive research background in anxiety, depression, relationships, overthinking, and eating disorders. I earned my Ph.D from Penn State and M.A. from Boston College. My approach to therapy is strength-based and results oriented. I adapt the work I do in psychotherapy to each individual client as I've found that each person benefits from an individualized treatment plan and a psychologist who is knowledgeable and experienced in a range of effective treatments.

All of us need help from time to time to develop new ways of living fuller, richer lives. My focus is on improving how you perceive and navigate life's challenges, transitions, and relationships. Our work together can help you to develop new skills to create the life you want; to enhance your relationships, friendships, or worklife; and to move you toward greater abundance, mindfulness, and depth. My additional expertise in neuropsychology means that our work will integrate psychotherapy and current neuroscience -- 'psychotherapy with the brain in mind' -- a powerfully effective combination.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
