There are times when things are not going as well as we'd like in our family, social or work relationships, particularly post-Covid. You may feel alone, depressed, anxious, or have conflict or discomfort with those you care about. In my psychotherapy practice I help couples, individuals & families restore their sense of well being and connection. People learn how to be more present and intentional in accordance with their values. Partners learn to be safely available to each other through a dialogue process that teaches more effective listening, deeper understanding and empathy. In person and Telehealth meetings are offered.

Despite your best efforts to convince yourself that you have it all together, you’re struggling with relationships, you're tired, and you're left wondering, "is it me?" Feeling unsure of how to navigate it all, you’ve pushed down the pain and traumatic memories. Sometimes, you do feel fine; but the feeling is fleeting. Truthfully, the things you've been doing to cope just aren't helping as much as you'd hoped. We both know that simply "focusing on yourself" overlooks the complexity of navigating through unwritten relationship rules, cultural expectations, and your values. Together, let's find new ways to navigate the challenges.

Oftentimes, we carry the weight of our past, and past traumas that have not been fully resolved and they distort our present by continuously replaying in our relationships, with family, work and everyday life.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important steps in developing trust and faith in your journey to seek clarity and healing within your life. I will provide you with a space that is safe, nonjudgmental, accepting and supportive to help you explore yourself more deeply which will enable you to draw new meanings to your experiences. This will be a collaborative effort working together toward your treatment goals. So often, we feel alone and just want to be heard and listened too, and then to find out we are anything but alone. I will be there with you through this journey.

The use of tracking cycles of interactions and working with a family systems model helps one better understand how their previous patterns of interaction may inhibit deeper connection to those around them.
I am a licensed mental health counselor. I received my graduate degree from New York University and I am an experienced professional therapist for individuals, couples, and families trained at the Ackerman Institute for the Family in New York City. I specialize in relationship issues within the family, couple, and/or individual, improving the understanding of oneself and their relationship to others. I track the impact of family history on relationships, and the complex patterns of interaction that play out within relationships to help re-establish better connections and form better pathways to healthier communication.

Life has its ups and downs. You want to have the skills, resources, and supports to weather whatever the world throws at you and you want that for your family too. As strong and resourceful as we are, no one has the ability to manage everything, all the time. Every now and then, any one of us could use a little extra help. Maybe you have been feeling more stressed. Maybe you are going through a major life change. Maybe there have been concerns about your child’s development or behavior. Maybe you or your loved one has been diagnosed with a learning or developmental disability, or you want to know more about ADHD, Autism, or Anxiety.

Life is full of challenges and sometimes we can get support from friends and family but often that comes with well intentioned but sometimes unsolicited advice or you need to choose what you say or not say in order to protect loved ones feelings. Sometimes you want and need to externalize your thoughts and feelings without having to filter them. I offer adult therapy that is strengths based and solution focused in a warm environment. I can help you identify the root causes of your struggles and implement changes so you feel more content. I also offer parenting work that strengthens parents skill sets.

I have provided individual, group, couples and family therapy in both school settings as well as private practice settings since the onset of my career. I utilize behavioral management tools, cognitive behavioral therapy, and creative therapies to encourage and teach children as well as adults, how to increase their sense of self and learn how to celebrate their strengths and weaknesses. I feel strongly that children respond best when they are free to explore their feelings creatively as opposed to solely participating in talk therapy. I help clients feel accountable and more importantly, recognize they have the ability to grow.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
