Many individuals I work with are in the midst of a major life transition or in need of one. Transitions can have many forms: loss or gain of income, status, health, security, or a loved one; the course of life bringing you into adulthood, parenthood, middle or old age; traumatic experiences; spiritual, psychedelic, or spontaneous experiences that alter your sense of self and the world. I am passionate about helping clients engage their stories in a way that leads to a better understanding of who they are. As a counselor, I understand that trauma occurs at any age, in many different forms. I'm Tammy Reade, a licensed professional counselor, having earned my degree from George Mason University in 2020. My path to counseling has been shaped by my personal journey, spanning over 25 years in the field. My diverse experience encompasses working with adults, couples, adolescents, and children. I've held roles such as a child protection worker, juvenile probation officer, advocate for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors, foster parent trainer, and jail therapist. Yet, my most meaningful role has been as an adoptive and foster parent for more than 22 years.

I am a Licensed Clinical psychologist who completed clinical training at Duke University, Harvard Medical School's Victims of Violence Program and at the University of Massachusetts and UNC-Chapel Hill. I provide highly specialized treatments for traumatic stress (posttraumatic stress disorders), grief/loss, major depression, anxiety and relationship issues. I am trained in highly specialized, evidenced-based therapies that have scientific research supporting their efficacy. I have also worked extensively with veterans, students and physicians coping with burnout.

I help people with eating disorders untangle the obstacles keeping them stuck in their disorder so they can truly build a life that aligns with their values. If you are struggling with an eating disorder, body image issues, anxiety, depression, burnout, perfectionism, or self esteem, my blend of authenticity and evidenced based treatments is kind of different from your usual therapist, so if you think you need someone to tell it to you straight without too much touchy feely stuff, we might be a good match.

I'm Anita Abotsi, a Licensed Professional Counselor with 9 years of experience in the mental health field. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Rhode Island College and my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. Throughout my career, I've worked in diverse settings including community-based mental health programs, crisis stabilization units, and substance abuse recovery centers. I am an EMDRIA-certified therapist with 15+ years of experience serving individuals and families in Charlottesville. I operate from a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach and incorporate interventions from the following therapeutic modalities, depending on the client's goals for therapy and presenting issues: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, expressive arts therapies.
