Beginning therapy and taking the chance to trust someone new is an act of great courage. You may find yourself seeking therapy because you’ve noticed that the strategies that you learned in the past to protect yourself from pain are causing pain in your current life and relationships. I particularly enjoy working with queer, trans, and questioning clients and their loved ones, individuals with anxiety, people dealing with grief, & young adults with difficulties in familial, friendship, romantic or sexual relationships. You can expect me to join our relationship with curiosity, kindness, and at times a new or challenging perspective.

Individual Therapy is offered. I use a combination of approaches and I build on strengths, not dissect weaknesses. I also see the individual wholistically (body, mind, and spirit) and see each life problem as an opportunity for significant growth.

I am trained and knowledgeable about working with people experiencing anxiety, panic, depression, grief, and more.
I am not accepting new clients at this time. However, when I do, I help adults experiencing anxiety when life presents stressful challenges due to recent events, or problems that have gone on a long time. As a strengths-based therapist I use an interactive approach to help people gain insight and knowledge about themselves and what's going on. Together we explore a variety of problem solving skills and I encourage them to try ideas they think might help. I believe therapy provides a safe and confidential place to foster trust, personal growth, and self-confidence,

I support various presenting concerns including anxiety, grief, depression, life transitions, burnout, relationship concerns, and racial-cultural trauma.
You find yourself here reading all these profiles still not knowing if the person you see displayed on the screen will be someone who can hold space for you in the way you need. Finding a therapist to trust someone to trust with your thoughts can feel daunting and scary. It is my goal to provide you with a soft place to land where the focus is you. You deserve to feel seen and heard. There's strength in your vulnerability.

I've always wanted to incorporate animals into therapeutic activities. My family has all rescues and I’ve volunteered with APS of Durham for over 10 years. Animal assisted therapy is generally done with the therapist's personal animal. My pre-Covid sessions were typically in home with you and your pet, developing more connection and emotional support. I moved my small practice to primarily tele-health but try to be available and flexible to meet when you need. It’s also important that the therapy is a fit for what you need and you can be yourself. I’m building a therapy space in Hendersonville Fall 2024 onsite sessions..

I aim to offer evidenced based trauma-informed therapeutic services to a diverse array of children and families who have been impacted by stressful and traumatic events in the home and in the community. I also love supporting children who may be demonstrating symptoms of depression or anxiety, need behavioral support for conduct disorders or ADHD, and children and adolescents who have struggled with disordered eating behaviors and need familial support to manage symptoms in the home. As your therapist, I will provide a safe, nonjudgmental, and empathic setting for you to share about your current situation; explore early life experiences; gain a helpful understanding of your emotional world; and why you think and act in particular, problematic patterns. Many, if not all, of our emotional burdens (anxiety, people-pleasing, lying, codependency, lack of coping skills, mistrust of authority, hypersensitivity, defensiveness, an underdeveloped sense of self, parenting struggles, relationship issues) are the result of earlier wounds that infuse within us lasting well into adulthood.

**I AM UNABLE TO ACCEPT NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME. IF YOU ARE A FORMER CLIENT, PLEASE REACH OUT VIA EMAIL**. I believe that we are designed dynamic and multi-faceted, thus we must honor and take notice of each important piece of ourselves. By using a Bio-Psych-Social-Spiritual model of therapy we can move toward a more comprehensive understanding of your needs and a more full experience of recovery, wellness and joy. While my treatment approach is guided by my own training and experience, my goal is always to tailor therapy to your specific needs and concerns not just a symptom or diagnosis.

I am currently accepting new clients, and I always respond within 24 hours. I partner with adults of all ages who are seeking psychotherapy within a setting that’s able to hold the fullness of who they are and the larger arc of their path. Located on Pickards Mountain at the edge of Chapel Hill, I describe my approach as somatic, depth-oriented, and mindfulness-based. Another term I use is soulcentric. Why? Because the word soul points to the deeper dimensions of one’s life. It evokes the rich, sometimes veiled currents running through our lives and orients us toward our ever-unfolding authenticity and path.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
