I work with a wide range of adolescents and adults, in particular those in the LGBTQIA community who are seeking to understand and accept themselves. This process involves self-discovery, understanding and self-acceptance. We can work together through issues such as shame, guilt, low self - esteem, school bullying, verbal/physical abuse, discrimination and the lack of family and societal support. We can also navigate possible conflicts of spirituality and personal values with sexual orientation/gender identity.

I create a safe space and comforting environment for individuals struggling with mental health issues and families/couples going through hardships. Finding an outlet and someone to talk to can be hard, but I am here to assist you on your journey and give you the necessary skills to navigate your struggles. Being a mother is challenging. You have more worries, less time, and no room for "self-care." You may question your abilities, your partner, your career path, and more. You may even be anxious about delivering your baby. Have you completely lost yourself in a sea of stress, worry, and sadness? You are not alone. I am a mother, wife, and survivor of perinatal anxiety. I understand the fluctuating hormones that can cause our mood disturbances. I want to help you to manage your anxiety, replace your depressive thoughts, and understand the chemical changes that cause them. With individual or couples therapy you will be well!

I work with adult individuals, couples and groups. The realities of life in this millennium lead to stressors that effectively separate us from one another and even from our deeper selves. While therapy can address areas considered to be problem solving the deeper work is interior. Self-knowledge leads to clarifying perspectives on life that make healthy and genuine connection more possible. Problems of human existence like meaning, loneliness, illness, death & freedom are common to all of us and are core considerations in therapy.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
