I have known since I was quite young that my purpose in life is to assist others. I embrace the belief that every individual is deserving of love, kindness, and compassion and I feel incredibly grateful to be part of my client’s healing journey to happiness. I also deeply believe that in order for my clients to progress quickly, they require a safe, compassionate space to express themselves freely and authentically without fear of judgment or criticism. My goals are always to make sure that each and every client feels heard, seen, and honored.

For 21 years I have worked as a psychotherapist and have helped people struggling with various issues.  This struggle comes from looking to others to buoy self-esteem instead of feeling an internal sense of calm, control and contentedness. I describe this as living outside-in instead of living inside-out. People often come to me when they are in a soul-crisis, made evident through the prism of anxiety, depression, and relationship issues.  I like to think of this time of crisis as a growth opportunity.

I am a licensed Psychologist and I work with clients presenting with a broad range of issues. I use a practical, supportive and collaborative approach to therapy and believe in tailoring my treatment plan to the specific needs and goals of each client. Clients often choose to begin therapy with me when they feel stuck in an unsatisfying or unhealthy situation, when life feels overwhelming, when past experiences begin to negatively affect current relationships, or when they want assistance developing the skills to cope with their current life circumstances.

I work with adults needing emotional support and specialize in releasing shame and guilt from experiencing trauma. In session we address the parts of your personality that hold protection over the wounded and vulnerable inner child and we release the frozen emotions that keep that inner child fearful, insecure, withdrawn, or stuck. When we feel burdened with negative feelings, it is easy for us to become angry, depressed, have low self-esteem, or be easily triggered because the unresolved energy remains.

I believe that all clients have the ability to live the life they want. Often we live life by "rules" that we needed while growing up. Things that were helpful before may no longer serve us, and may even create a feeling of "stuck". Often we can feel isolated and alone in our struggle, convinced that we are the only ones who find life difficult to live sometimes. In my room (physical and virtual) we work together to discover your wants and needs, figure out new "rules", and get to the place that you feel most fulfilled. We collaborate on goals and formulate treatment plans unique to you.

Stephanie Betancourt is a Latinx psychotherapist who practices in the state of Florida. Ms. Betancourt received a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Central Florida. Stephanie has experience in multiple settings including in hospitals, community mental health, and private practice. Ms. Betancourt has also worked with diverse populations including children, adults, geriatric, couples, and families.

With the start of a brand new year, many people begin to process and reflect on the past year(s) and prepare for a new one, thinking about the goals they want to set and how they want to be better. The most fulfilling days are those in which my clients report relief from distraction and newfound happiness.

We work with clients who are stuck in their head, over thinking, with a spiral of negative thoughts. Our clients usually feel like their anxiety or depression is holding them back from living a real life. They just want to be able to relax, find joy in things, have healthy relationships, and better boundaries. We help them do all of that and then some. Our clients leave therapy with better communication, a higher sense of self-worth, and the skills needed to move through difficult things without feeling overwhelmed. They have coping skills, real ones, sometimes for the first time!

I work with queer issues and gender exploration/transition, codependency and relationship problems, anxiety disorders, neurodivergence, chronic illness, trauma, and grief/loss.
