I feel that my clients can reach their potential. I am very open minded, empathetic and conscientious in working together with clients who I will go to great lengths for, to help them reach their potential. I work with clients to resolve issues that cause them to feel depressed and anxious. This could include self esteem or relationships issues such codependence, boundary or communication. Clint's discomfort could also emanate from addictions which either be related to substances or behaviors. I also help my clients to resolve past traumas, which could include sexual, physical or emotional abuse which are still affecting their lives today.

Seeking the help of a therapist is a very courageous step! Whether you're struggling with a particular issue or just can't shake the feeling that there should be more to life, I’m confident that I can help. The primary focus of my practice has been in addictions and co-occurring conditions working both with adolescents and adults; helping to manage all that accompanies a substance-related or addictive disorder. However I have worked with diverse populations and issues and am accustomed to working with clients in individual, family and group settings. I have helped clients like you successfully address a wide variety of issues.

Have you ever wondered what makes for a fulfilling life? I believe it can be condensed down to two things–mental well-being & relational satisfaction. If our mind is at peace and we have satisfying and rewarding relationships, we tend to feel great! Mental well-being is about living life in accordance with your values. When your values and your actions don’t align, we often see psychological distress. This, along with the seemingly relentless pressure to present our best selves 100% of the time can lead to symptoms of anxiety/depression. Sometimes we need a little TLC. A space to slow down, be introspective, and discuss challenges.

I am a Certified Trauma Therapist with substantial experience working with individuals, couples and families experiencing addictions/substance abuse, anxiety, sadness, depression, anger, grief and loss, and LGBTQ issues.
Our journey through life has no straight lines. It is overflowing with unpredictable twists and turns. Over time, we develop chronic and automatic responses that sap our vitality and rob us of the ability to experience the positive feelings of love, joy, and pleasure. As a result, people enter therapy wanting to change something about themselves, their circumstances or their relationships. Every person, above all else, wants to give and receive love. The client is the single, most potent contributor to successful therapeutic outcome. I, therefore, tailor treatment to the needs of each individual via office or Telehealth sessions.

Once present they can recognize the faulty belief systems they hold which continues to leave them unhappy, angry, depressed, and self-medicating themselves with anything that takes away their pain.
I like working with people who are fed-up with their lives and can't seem to find a solution. It is at this point that people become willing to try something different after all what is there to lose? Therapy can be a life altering experience if you wish it to be! There is work to be done but you will be supported and empowered throughout the process. I am reminded often there are things we can't do alone that with another person's help become possible. Being inspired and motivated that there is hope is where the journey begins...

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
