I want my clients to find their voice; whether that is a teen who has never experienced autonomy and has been told what to do their whole life, or an adult who feels used, invalidated, and broken.
There is so much beauty in being honest and vulnerable. As a therapist, it is a privilege to be able to create a safe space for my clients—a space that gives them an opportunity to build strength, awareness, and resilience. Seeking therapy does not indicate failure or brokenness and I would be honored to walk alongside you as you navigate your life journey. I specialize in trauma, grief, depression, and anxiety of all ages. I have certifications in Brainspotting, EMDR and TF-CBT. I am also an Associate Partner Trauma Therapist through IITAP which enables me to help betrayed partners navigating betrayal trauma.

Have you just found out that your spouse or significant other has been engaging in sexual behaviors and lying about it? Maybe it was sexting, an emotional affair, pornography, or other sexual behaviors. Whatever it was, it was kept from you and you feel lied to, betrayed, and fooled. Or maybe you are the one engaging in sexual behaviors that you have tried to stop but, no matter how much effort you put into stopping, you return to that same behavior over and over. Maybe you are grieving a relationship loss, trying to figure out how to parent now that things have changed or you just feel stuck in the same old patterns.

There are three birds on a wire. One decides to fly away, how many are left? Answer: Three. The one just decided to fly away. It didn’t actually do it. Perhaps you have decided that you are going to change. Are you ready to do so? David believes that we already have everything we need within ourselves, including the presence of the Divine within us. As a therapist, David’s role is to create a space where individuals can do the work it takes to move toward wholeness.

My philosophy of counseling is that every human soul is unique and their experiences shape their view of the world. The process of individuation is essential in order for a person to become whole and fully developed as his, her, or their 'true self.' I believe empathy, collaboration and validation are key to the counseling relationship. The person as NOT the problem, rather, the problem is the problem. In the counseling relationship we will focus on strengths and mindfully and collaboratively awaken awareness of the authentic self to free clients of negative learned beliefs. The goal is for you to have a satisfactory life.

Sojourn means "to stay for a time in a place or to live temporarily". This is my view of our life on earth. It is a temporary stay, and our time here can be difficult, confusing and painful at times. Sometimes, we need help navigating. I believe that we each have a unique story and set of experiences that make us who we are. What we believe about ourselves and the world around us impacts how we feel and respond to life. I'd like to help you navigate life so that you may have the most abundant life possible.

I am licensed in both AL and TN. Together we will seek progress, not perfection. My therapy is relaxed and goal centered. I use humor when it allows, as laughter is good for the soul. We all have a longing for attention and responsiveness from our loved ones. When needs go unmet, we get stuck in patterns of automatic responses. I want client's to recognize needs, take responsibility, and learn how to better disrupt unhealthy patterns. My desire is to help you gain awareness and be more present with yourself and other people in your life.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
