As a queer therapist, I am exceedingly passionate about creating space for clients in underserved populations and understand firsthand just how crucial that type of support can be. I am sex positive, kink knowledgeable and kink affirming. I meet every client where they are at, and see them as a person, not a set of symptoms to be "solved" or "fixed". I am incredibly excited to be a human who gets to empower other humans to be their best selves. I enjoy working with clients of all backgrounds and walks of life, and am part of the communities I serve.

Emotional distress takes many forms: low self esteem, depression, anxiety, chronic anger, and/or relationship problems are some of the reasons people come to therapy. Some people who see me are having a difficult time with a life transition or have been unable to bounce back from a significant loss. Some have a history of being traumatized in ways that still impact them, or have problematic and unproductive ways of coping with life's difficulties.

I reply to Psych Today inquiries within 24 business hours. “You have to start believing you deserve more than just the bare minimum.” As a psychotherapist, I believe that every person has the innate right and capacity to feel safe and cultivate a beautiful life for themselves. However, sometimes we need a little help along the way. I firmly believe in creating a safe and non-judgmental space where individuals can explore their emotions, thoughts, and behavior.

The individuals, couples, and families with whom I work are interested in understanding and addressing not only certain specific emergent problems such as those associated with adjustment and relationship difficulties, depression, and anxiety, but also the underlying thoughts, feelings, and behavioral and relational patterns that have contributed to the development of these problems. Through a collaborative, empathic, psychotherapeutic process, these individuals, couples, and families expand and utilize their skills, strengths, and self-understanding in order to live more meaningful and rewarding lives.

As a psychotherapist & social researcher, I have 20+ years experience working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families experiencing a broad range of challenges & issues. We all live together in the same society, but the complex factors that effect each of us individually can create challenges that make it hard to succeed, live up to our potential & lead happy, satisfying lives. There are tools, that we can use to deal with these challenges. Learning how to access our inner strength and power is something each of us are capable of - and this empowerment is the key to resolving confusion, pain & suffering.

However, when the control slips beneath your grasp, you may feel angry or hurt, causing: increased self doubt, loneliness, anxiety, depression, eating disordered behaviors and isolation.
Do you feel you are playing a role in your own life and are ready to be the main character? You have been waiting, sitting with your thoughts and may even imagine yourself in a different relationship or environment. You have been going through the motions for so long, you have forgotten that you are: capable, independent and resilient. Perhaps you have been relying on others opinions and emotions, over your own instincts. You often strive for perfectionism and feel the need to maintain control.

I am a specialist in anxiety and mood disorders among adolescents and college students.
I've been in practice for over 10 years and have seen patients from three-ninety years old. Many transitions occur throughout the lifespan and during these transitions; some can be more difficult than expected and need examining for better understanding and practices. To do this I facilitate an environment free of judgement and help my patients understand their feelings and thoughts, as well as how to improve their behaviors to better their lives and futures. I enjoy my work and very much and strive to help people find their own voice, achieve their greatest accomplishments and successes in life, love, and work.

My work with clients often focuses on addressing trauma and loss/grief, clarifying values, finding meaning and purpose, and increasing a sense of belonging. I am a Certified Trauma Professional (CTP). The purpose of therapy is to have an affirming place to safely explore and grow in ways defined and determined by you. I consider how identities (gender identity, race, sexuality, class, (dis)ability, religion, etc.) shape your experiences and how they help us understand what wellness means to you.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
