overcoming trauma/traumatic experiences, crisis resolution, behavioral/cognitive adjustment, life skill building, college/professional preparation, substance use/abuse, life reflection and evaluation, and much more).
Overall, I consider myself a "worldly nurturer". "Worldly", because I have worked with people from all backgrounds, cultures, ages, and walks of life to "nurture" their potential. All of my experiences have taught me the foundational skills that I use in my profession today, which are: patience, the ability to listen, the understanding that listening is as paramount as speaking, the capabilities to be resourceful, valuing modesty and humility whilst still being confident and capable, and having faith in my skill-set while still being open to professionally growing and developing.

I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals and couples from different backgrounds, treating relationship issues, depression, anxiety, addiction, mood disorders, and PTSD.
Welcome! How are you? I know things might be difficult right now. Perhaps you feel like you’re staring into an endless void that’s gotten too heavy to bare. Maybe your anxiety makes it seem impossible to build or maintain relationships, or you find it difficult to let go of unhealthy attachments. Or maybe you just need someone to talk to. If life's got you emotionally exhausted, don’t worry. You're in the right place!

I have a particular interest in trauma-informed care, Substance-use recovery, ADHD/AuDHD management, building boundaries, learning self-esteem/self-trust, and working with queer and BIPOC individuals and families who have been marginalized based on their identity.
Holistic wellness is about finding a seat in a world increasingly marked by systemic barriers. Very often, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals aren't given seats at tables, or even welcomed into rooms that would make life more accessible. I see therapy as a folding chair—a portable, adaptable, and transformative support system that we unfold into our lives to create our own spaces to thrive. My ideal client is open, ready, and willing to work on themselves, name their inner demons, and resist the systemic barriers that have tried to dictate their paths.

These may manifest as problems with anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and/or the inability to maintain positive connections in personal relationships.
In addressing the concerns of my clients, I wish to meet them where they are and then walk with them through the journey of self-discovery and personal empowerment. Critical to this fluid equation is the cultivation of the therapeutic alliance and a sincere focus on deep, empathic listening. I apply the basic elements of mindfulness, whole person perspective, and cognitive behavioral therapy in a series of counseling sessions that aim to guide the client toward their desired goals of healing, balance, and improved inner health. The pressures of modern life can lower a shadow of despair over anyone's sense of well-being.

I specialize in supporting working professionals, especially teachers, nurses and students with anxiety or depression who are struggling in their career, education or relationships. Many feel stuck, burnt out, angry, and overwhelmed. Chronic stress and compassion fatigue make it hard for them to empathize with patients, students and administrators. Some may prefer to be alone, even though it leads to ruminating over traumatic work experiences and substance use. My clients have demanding jobs, are highly trained and accustomed to solving problems. However, no one is immune to the long-term effects of stress and trauma.

You're a professional but you feel like an imposter. You're carrying all this fear, shame, and hurt. Outwardly, you seem like you have it figured out but deep down you're struggling to get through the day. You're fed up with things feeling so hard and out of control all the time. You probably can’t even remember the last time everything didn’t feel so difficult. But one thing is for sure, you’re ready for relief. You’re ready to feel more confident, more energized, and to have some inner peace. But most of all you’re ready to feel like you have some control over your life again.

You're a helping professional or creative who needs help. You appear high functioning and your symptoms aren’t constant but they can be intense. You're scared that you’ve just been fooling everyone since they have no idea what a mess you really are. This has been going on so long, it’s hard to even remember a time before it. You know one thing for sure though: you want to feel better. You’re ready to let go of the anger. You’re ready to have better ways to cope and react to your triggers. But most of all, you’re ready to actually move on and live a happy life.

I work both individually and in groups with men/boys seeking support exploring how masculine socialization relates to their problems, and cultivating healthier masculinity to heal themselves, their interpersonal relationships, and patriarchal systems of gender-based oppression in their communities. I also work with a variety of clients of different backgrounds and experiences looking for a therapist with an anti-oppressive lens, who will regard the client as the expert on their life and experiences, and see their struggles in the integrated context of the personal, cultural, and universal levels of their human experience.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
