I use Integrative and Holistic Techniques to help: Individuals; Adolescents and Pre-teens; Families (Blended Families, Adjustment to Divorce/Separation); Parents Seeking Support; Couples: and those facing Depression and Anxiety.
Seeking connection is an integral part of being a human being. Often times our primary relationships with family members do not provide the connection that helps us feel the love and peace that we deserve. Through the therapeutic process, we can learn about how to seek relationships and connections that can bring this happiness to our lives. Sometimes this may mean creating boundaries with family members or friends or possibly ending those relationships we deem unhealthy. Through counseling, we are able to restore ourselves and our "families." This may mean our families of origin or simply the friends that we have chosen as our family.

Most often I work with people seeking help with the common challenges of adult life: relationship/family issues; grief and loss; adult child recovery; depression; codependency; addictions; health concerns; career/financial challenges; and unfulfilled spiritual yearnings - drawing from cognitive-behaviorial, psychodynamic, and transpersonal methodology.
Finding the best individual and marriage therapist for you can seem daunting. Talking to us, asking questions, paying attention to your feelings and intuition, all help. My 30 years experience as a compassionate, well-trained psychotherapist give me the background and skills to support you in achieving your goals, which might include: resolving immediate symptoms; recognizing and appreciating core strengths; developing deeper self awareness and acceptance; and learning the skills of empowered, effective communication. I am experienced in working with the newer spiritual growth paradigms, as in the work of Eckhart Tolle.

Depression can feel like living in a deep, dark hole. You may have no energy, no hope that things will improve. You may be hearing some of the lies that depression tells us; it will never get better, you've already tried everything, why bother, you're always going to feel this way. Depression may tell you that you aren't strong enough to make changes in your life. Depression can drain the joy out of a sunny day, leaving you feeling hopeless and exhausted. You may be wondering how everyone else has it all sorted, and believe that if you were just a better person, you'd be ok.

I specialize in working with adults, children/youth, couple and family issues and couples and families impacted by special needs specifically, Autism Spectrum Disorder and substance abuse.
Life throws us curve balls that seems hard to recover, but when you have someone and somewhere to support and guide you through, those curve balls turn into steps toward healing, a new journey and thus, a new outcome. I help clients work through life difficulties and changes and help you achieve what's important to you. I understand the significance of providing quality service and meeting the needs of those who put their trust in me. Your counseling experience will fit your needs, whether this means meeting you where you are in life, making services affordable or receiving counseling services through video and telephone sessions.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
