Are you looking for an “anything-but-typical” therapist? Have you struggled to find a therapist who connects with your neurodivergence, idiosyncrasies, or unconventional perspectives? You feel too much — or maybe not enough. Everyone says you're too much — or not enough. You might struggle with the parts of life that others seem to just take for granted, like meeting deadlines, eating without fear, enjoying time with friends, parenting without guilt or shame, looking in the mirror, making and keeping plans, paying bills on time, or controlling your anger over seemingly small things.

I'm so glad you are here. I help folks who are feeling isolated, depressed, anxious, confused, and untethered to find safety and belonging. Whether you are an individual, couple, or family we will work collaboratively toward making conscious and conscientious choices that promote "just" relationships - relationships grounded in love and equity - with ourselves and one another. I firmly believe that this is fundamental to finding our way through life's constant changes and challenges.

Deciding to begin therapy can be overwhelming because the idea of change can be overwhelming. While inevitable, change doesn’t have to happen all at once; it requires practice, persistence, and a supportive environment. I approach each person with humility and respect and honor each individual’s unique experiences. I aim to understand the larger systems, including the relationships, community, and society, that lead to where we are today. My approach to therapy is grounded in providing evidence-based treatment, treatment proven to be effective, and creating a collaborative space where we can work toward your desired change together.

“We are hurt in relationship; we heal in relationship” is the core conviction of my therapeutic approach. From the time our earliest map forms in our families, we see the world through the lens of our experience. It’s through relationships that our worldview expands and our sense-of-self matures, especially if we take time for inquiry and insight, and to integrate what we learn. I work from a self-in-context perspective, deeply attuning to the ways not only our family, religion, and culture impact us, but how inequities around race, gender, and sexuality inform our sense of self-and-other as well.

Are you a member of the LGBTQ community and struggling to feel safe and accepted? Maybe you are childfree and feeling judged? Are you neurodivergent and struggling to navigate a world made for neurotypicals? Maybe you are exploring kink or poly and need a therapist who won’t judge? Do you have an inner critic that never lets up on the hateful self-talk? Maybe your pet died and no one seems to understand your grief. Or maybe you are realizing that the dissociation that once kept you safe is making you feel like you don’t have control of your life. If you are reading this, you are ready for change.

Hi ya'll :) I provide services to people who seek my help. Even if it's to get you to another provider who fits you! I want to work with folks who are open to doing the work - which is a hard thing to do. I validate that. But let's do this if you have the space. I provide including both psychotherapy, as well as brief assessments for WPATH letters for life saving, gender affirmative health care + GHAC letters to appeal insurance denials of coverage for GAHC (don't back down!). You don't have to be LBTQISP+ for me to care about your well-being. If you imagine a fit, please reach out and we can figure it out together.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
