My goal is to support your growth and help you examine the impact of the cultural systems in which we live. I often treat clients who suffer from anxiety and OCD, and I help them understand how cultural systems may have reinforced those conditions. While anxiety is a natural part of the human experience, too much can be maladaptive. Influenced by evidence-based and Buddhist mindfulness approaches, I help clients examine and confront the sources of their anxiety, find better ways to manage it, and ultimately pursue a life that is consistent with their values.

Therapy can transform both our inner and outer worlds by making sense of our stories, releasing what no longer serves us, and living more fully in the present. I do this work best with people who are overly responsible, self-critical, and chronically nervous, tense, or guilty. You might identify as a perfectionist or people-pleaser, and might say you "grew up too fast." Common goals include getting in touch with alienated parts of the self, freedom from self-criticism, healing from emotional abuse and neglect, navigating difficult relationships with family, and relief from symptoms of PTSD, OCD, anxiety disorders, or depression.

I believe that therapy involves a collaboration between the client/s and the therapist. If a client is not part of the decisions, the ideas, the relationship, and the motivation, achieving the desired change is much more difficult. I understand that being in a relationship of any kind can be difficult and I believe that everyone needs help navigating the obstacles that we are bound to encounter in love, family, friends & life. I love being a part of that process. My role as a therapist is to collaborate with, empathize with, support, understand, and encourage my clients. I do this through face to face as well as tele/video therapy.

Evening Appointments Available! Do you feel overwhelmed by work, your relationships, or changes in your life? Do you ever find yourself wondering “Why do others look like they have their lives together and I’m struggling to just be me”? It can sometimes feel too painful to explore these questions alone and even scarier to let someone else be there to explore them with you. I understand that struggle and would be honored to work with you at your pace to figure out what it takes for you to feel satisfied and fulfilled.

Sometimes, life can be difficult. We suffer more when we fight, resist or avoid painful thoughts, feelings, memories or sensations. Living a value-driven life is challenging when we do this. A value-driven life is one where we continue to do the things that are important to us.

Do you feel “strange,” “different,” or not quite fitting the mold that your community, society, or culture has set for you? Are you a creative that finds healing through your art, music, dance, etc., and yet have not found a space that can honor that? Do you often feel isolated or afraid to show the real you? Do you feel bogged down by anxiety and depression, and find yourself beating yourself up daily? It can be scary to figure out how to cope, as well as to put the real you forward and yet I believe who you are is key to finding the path toward your healing.

Be Seen. Be Heard. Be Known. These three brief sentences perfectly summarize my approach as a therapist. I am seeking to be a safe, non judgmental place for my clients to rest and truly be seen, heard and known. I use a multitude of therapeutic approaches (DBT, CBT, Family Systems, Attachment, Narrative, Solutions Focused to name a few) but believe my skills as a relational clinician differentiate me amongst the crowded field of options. I work with Individuals (13+), Couples and Families. I find it a great honor to be a therapist and walk alongside those seeking help and I look forward to connecting with you.

Your struggle is real. Many of my clients struggle with intense emotional pain stemming from feelings of unlovability and fear of rejection. Their pain acts like an emotional dictator that commands them to withdraw from friends, family, work, school, hobbies, passions, interests, and other activities that make life worth living. Increasingly distant from their values (who they want to be deep inside their hearts) and goals (what they want to accomplish), they feel directionless and unsure of their best life because they’re so focused on protecting themselves from emotional pain.

Most people I work with want help connecting with others more deeply. Some want help with depression or anxiety. And others want help identifying and meeting some needs in life, love, or work. With over 15 years of experience, I specialize in working with people who want to improve their relationships with others, increase their emotional communication, and identify their needs in life.  I bring a natural curiosity as well as empathy and compassion when helping you work through some of the barriers that may get in the way of you reaching your goals.

As a psychotherapist I strive to assist my clients in the process of becoming more whole in all aspects of their lives. My primary training is as an art therapist and I use an integrative approach to promote healing. I find that enhancing talk therapy with experiential methods gives my clients the freedom to express their deepest selves. Within the therapeutic relationship we can find the existing internal nuances and textures that make us all unique and valuable. My work includes seeing individual adults who have depression/anxiety, past trauma, addiction related issues and relationship challenges.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
