I specialize in working with teens and young adults around the issues of trauma, adoption, substance use, depression, self-harm, family conflict, and life transitions. I know these time periods in life are especially challenging, and no problem is too big or too small for therapy. I am here as a resource to handle the extreme life events, or if you simply need to process. If you are feeling like you don't know what could possibly make life more manageable or how to stop behaviors that are no longer helpful, I can be of help. Teens and young adults are my passion, and I have seen I am able to deeply connect with them.

I was principal researcher on other outcome studies(Family Preservation Program, Austin-Travis County MHMR, Austin Children's Museum).
My practice is divided between therapy & assessment. I enjoy each and feel privileged to be able to do both - they are mutually enriching. My Ph.D. is from UT Austin. I have a B.S. in Biology (Santa Clara Univ.) and an M.P.A. (George Washington Univ.). I founded the National Organization to Treat A-T, which funds treatment research for a rare disease that my son had. My greatest privilege has been to be Mom to my three children.

We will reflect your previous relationships, family dynamics, and behavioral patterns to examine how they have impact your body, thoughts, and mental health.
As humans, we are constantly challenged by the imperfections and expectations of society. It can be confusing, discouraging, and at times can dim the light within us. It can also make us feel lost and disconnected from ourselves and others. Investing in yourself is the best way to overcome these challenges and learn more about your thoughts, behaviors, beliefs, and values.

My approach to therapy is rooted in a blend of therapeutic models, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), neurobiology, attachment theory, and somatic practices.
Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in patterns of thinking, feeling or behaving that feel out of touch with who we really are. Have you learned about attachment styles but need help breaking free from old attachment patterns? I offer individual therapy with clients who want to understand themselves more deeply and couples therapy focusing on helping couples break free from old attachment patterns.

It's time to finally get the help your family needs.
Life seems harder for your child than others. Just getting through each day is a challenge. As you see your child struggle, you feel frustrated and drained. Maybe your family is stuck together in your child's hard place. The energy seems to flow to dealing with sadness, worry, or acting out. Once the situation seemed a passing phase, but more and more it feels like it will always be like this. You worry about where this is headed. It's time to find help for your child and your family.

I specialize in working with individuals & couples that may have experienced: rupture within their family of origin, obsessive, anxious, & depressive symptoms, and struggles with identity formation.
I hope you take a moment to recognize how much work you’ve done to get to this place. You’ve survived this long, and you should be proud. For most folks, surviving on its own doesn’t cut it anymore. We need to make some adjustments to sustain a more grounded and full life. I want you to experience collaborative healing that is safe, free of judgment, occasionally humorous, and rooted in kindness and gratitude. I currently practice under Therapy Austin and Central Austin Psychotherapy offering in-person and telehealth services.

My ideal client is itching for a change, even if they are unsure a change is possible. They may find themselves experiencing recurrent uncomfortable emotions (grief, depression, shame, anxiety), painful relationship dynamics, or a deep longing to heal a past trauma (sexual abuse or family violence). I cary the belief that change is possible and healing is feasible even when it may feel far off. My work is rooted in attachment theory- which means I hold authenticity, compassion, connection, and unrelenting hope at the center of every session.

At the heart of my therapeutic practice is the recognition that as humans, each of us is interconnected with the people and environment around us. By uncovering how all the pieces of your daily experience interact we can create a deeper understanding of your relationships and life, which in turn can create a bridge for lasting change. We will work together to cultivate clarity, connectedness, courage, and creativity and all of this will allow you to learn to thrive in life rather than survive.

As a psychologist, I also offer Collaborative psychological evaluations which involve questions from the client, family members and system providers (schools, pediatricians, psychiatrists).
I enjoy working with children and adolescents of any age. Listening to children and teenagers is so important as they often can tell us what we need to know to support them. I use both talking and play to facilitate connection and communication. Interpersonal experiences affect our relationships and the way in which we interact with others. I have a strong background in family systems, school collaboration and developmental and attachment theory which is instrumental in my work with clients. I also work with families to facilitate communication when there is a disruption in the family system due to divorce or adoption.

Now offering Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. We all seek out therapeutic support for different reasons. Some of us have survived painful life experiences that we can't seem to get past. Others are stuck in the cycle of anxiety or depression and have not found resolution. Some of us still react out of survival skills that we may have needed as a child, but can't stop them from coming up in our present life. I create a container that enables you to heal your nervous system, build emotional resiliency and shift harmful mental beliefs. I want to help my clients find resolution, not relief.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
