I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with experience counseling in inpatient and outpatient settings to individuals and families ages 6 – 80. My specialties include counseling kids, adolescents, and adults with innovative, evidenced based therapy approaches (including EMDR) that yield productive counseling sessions in a less confrontational style. I specialize in working with adults and adolescents who struggle with body image distress, disordered eating, and substance abuse/misuse. Individuals who suffer from disordered eating and addiction tend to also experience high levels of shame, self-criticism, perfectionism, anxiety, depression, and history of trauma which all perpetuate the illness. Addiction and eating disorders are not disorders of lacking control, but disorders of unmet needs.

Over the last 13 plus years I have specialized in treating clients struggling with substance use and trauma. I have spent the majority of my career working in treatment facilities that address substance use whether they were residential, extended care or outpatient and I enjoy working with those who report concerns related to their use of a substance(s) and report other "underlying concerns" such as a history of trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, etc. I've been trained in EMDR and spent several years working with young adults, women, and even professionals. Emily helps clients work through past traumas in a way that will decrease trauma responses and fully enjoy the present day.
