I am a Durango native, born and raised. Having lived here my whole life, I have deep roots in this community and understand the joys and struggles of living in a rural town. I have a passion for helping women, and young adults experiencing life transitions such as going to college or ending a long-term relationship, as well as, helping people heal and process traumatic events. I also help parents understand and improve their connection with their children or teens through parent coaching and am a registred Play Therapist.

I believe that change begins in respecting each person's life choices. I listen and reflect to help people become aware and transform negative thought patterns, and to identify and release emotional and negative thoughts that promote feeling "stuck." I have lived in Durango since 1997, graduating from Fort Lewis College with a bachelor's degree in political science and psychology. During that time, I worked at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for four years, finally realizing the judicial system was not where I would my best work to help empower those who find themselves caught up in it. I received my master's degree in social work from the University of Denver in 2010. I was the Southwest Regional Representative for the Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance and I volunteered for Durango's Sexual Assault Services Organization for 4 years, I was then honored to be on the Board.

As a counselor and as a human, I believe deeply in the importance of coming as you are, however you are. And that this is the best place to begin. Each one of us comes with our mistakes and bruises, and our perfect fallibility. And these are moments to be met honestly and with heart. To say the least, I am passionate about supporting others in their own journeys of healing and self-discovery. My specialties include grief and loss including grief ritual, trauma and EMDR, anxiety/stress/depression, mindfulness/meditation/embodiment, and relational distress, personal growth, DBT and CBT.

I have always been pulled towards topics that many in society do not want to talk about – sex, death, money, religion, addiction, and many others. I have seen what happens to individuals when they are left to struggle with these topics alone. Some feel guilt, fear, anxiety, depression, or just an overall sense that they are not allowed to be who they really are. My goal in therapy is to provide a safe space for individuals or those in relationship to talk about these topics and feelings. I work with them to develop the tools to grow into being confident, unashamed, and authentically themselves.

I work with adults and adolescents on concerns of PTSD, anxiety/depression, relational intimacy, men's issues, gender/sexual identity, and chronic illness/pain. I can also sometimes assist with navigating the often confusing crossroads of differing cultural worldviews, having extensive experience working with Native Americans as well as Pacific Rim and Latin American immigrants. Marianne Crom is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been practicing over 10 years. Her expertise is in providing EMDR therapy, working with couples and counseling for addictions. Much of her success is with helping adults who have experienced childhood sexual abuse or other forms of trauma, couples overcoming infidelity and families/individuals coping with addiction by learning how to lead a happy life. Clients have maintained sobriety and gone to college. Many have worked with co-occuring behavioral problems and found relief. Families have begun to understand the nature of addiction and how to cope with it.
