Life is puzzling in both its perplexity and in that it resembles one. Where we attempt to find the edge pieces for some kind of outline/guide, discover which pieces fit together, constantly looking at the bigger picture, realizing it’s going to take some time to complete, and having someone join in can be helpful and/or fun. I do so in order to simplify a section of their life puzzle piece as they are attempting to find where it goes and how it fits in the bigger picture. That might include trauma focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, DBT skills, Motivational Interviewing, solution focused therapy, and learned self-compassion.

Using therapeutic methods including psychodynamic, existential, narrative, CBT, dialectical behavioral (DBT), and others can assist in the healing process.
Navigating through the difficulties in life can often feel overwhelming. The journey of understanding, processing, and healing can seem daunting. You do not have to travel that path alone. If you are looking to move forward with your life, break feelings of being stuck, or better understand your place in the world then therapy can help tremendously. Trauma, crisis, loss, anxiety, and depression are only a few examples of barriers that be overcome within our therapy. Together, we can work to achieve the life that you want to have.

I use therapeutic methods including mind-body bridging, existential, sensory processing, experiential interventions, psychodrama, CBT, creative arts, DBT and ACT.
I want to know what happened. Not whats wrong, but what you have experienced so that we can facilitate your healing, allow maladaptive behaviors to slip away while finding your intrinsic strength, purpose, and personal values. What’s underlying that may make you more vulnerable? I want to assist you living more fulfilled. How may we get you connected to all forms of health so that you may live inspired and motivated? I hope to be an aid to help you grow in you living the life of your dreams. You matter. I want you to feel feelings and know it is ok to feel them, you don’t have to avoid them at all costs.

The one thing you can always count on in life, is that it will always change no matter if we are ready or not. Therapy is a way to be heard, emotions validated, and to gain a new perspective that will allow you to move forward.

I am intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and offer individual therapy and skills training groups.
I have a strong belief in the possibilities of healing, growth and change within an authentic collaborative client/therapist relationship. I have over 18 years of experience working with individuals and families recovering from trauma, living with chronic illness, working through relationship concerns and facing the challenges of mental illness. Taking the first steps to heal is often difficult, or even painful, however in doing so we can create a "path with heart" and meaning. I take a mindfulness based, goal oriented and active approach to therapy with focus on developing critical life skills.

I incorporate several evidence-based modalities into therapy, including CBT, DBT, EMDR, IFS, and mindfulness.
If you are being completely honest with yourself, are you happy with your life? That question can bring up a lot of thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. Life can be very challenging, and many people struggle to cope. The good news is you do not have to do it alone. I can help you process what you are experiencing and develop healthier, more effective coping and communication skills. For in-person clients, I offer hiking sessions and rock-climbing sessions. Vibroacoustic therapy and somatic processing are also available to in-person clients and help release stress and trauma from the body.

I utilize several modalities, including CBT, ACT, DBT, EMDR, and IFS, and sex therapy but the individualized, respectful, and safe therapeutic relationship is the most important stage of therapy.
I enjoy working with people from all walks of life, learning their stories, and helping guide them towards their own goals. I think that anyone can benefit from therapy, and I especially enjoy working with people who have identified a different future for themselves, one with less pain or anxiety or that heavy depression, less trauma shadowing them, less pressure to look a certain way, believe a certain way, love a certain way, or be a certain way. I love working with clients to find a door, something to open towards change and growth and their own version of peace, whatever that might mean to them.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.
