After living and working in UT for 17 years, I have relocated to CA and am providing telehealth, with in person visits every 6 weeks. I have 20 years experience treating eating disorders and work within multidisciplinary teams to provide a high level of care, outpatient. My practice has consistently been 95+% eating disorder clients, who also present with anxiety, depression, self-harm and related behaviors, PTSD and/or relational trauma. I approach eating disorder treatment with a strong focus on both physiological and emotional recovery, and am able to treat those with mild to severe eating disorders within the outpatient setting.

I am also dedicated to helping individuals with eating disorders, dissociative disorders, relationship difficulties, parenting concerns, and problems having to do with negative emotions, such as anxiety and depression.
It takes courage to seek the help of a therapist. My primary concern when I first meet a client is to respond with empathy and sensitivity to the distress which brings you to my office. In an atmosphere of genuine safety and acceptance we can begin the process of collaborating to understand and resolve your concerns. I draw on a number of theoretical perspectives and more than 20 years of clinical experience to provide therapy that is as effective as possible, in a compassionate, confidential and comfortable setting.

I have experience working with children (ages 6-11), adolescents, and adults on managing mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, PTSD, Identity Management (race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and faith), and many more.
What type of therapist are you looking for? Each person is different, and I am excited to meet with you. A little bit about me: My name is Jasmine, and I am a first-generation American and college graduate. In addition to completing the requirements for becoming a therapist, I offer a unique perspective based on my background and experiences from my upbringing, where I was exposed to various types of culture, religion, and other factors that contribute to an individual’s development and perspective. I have over seven years of experience working in the social services industry with various populations struggling with mental health.

Being a teenager can be tough. Being a parent of a teenager can be even more so. Because this is such an intense developmental period, when you realize you need some outside help, finding the right person can be tricky. Over the past sixteen years, I have connected with teens, young adults and their parents to help them find their way to stronger relationships and a solid sense of self. I help teens and young adults with addiction, eating disorders, anxiety and depression, communication and life skills, family relationships, trauma, social media anxiety/isolation, and more.

On the outside, you’re a woman who seems to have it all together. You are a high achiever, responsible, motivated and work hard. You have good relationships & don't want to disappoint the people you love. Despite your accomplishments, you never feel good enough and you can't figure out what's wrong with you. You hate the way you feel and want to take up less space. Eating feels stressful and confusing. You might try to feel better by limiting what you eat, exercising too much, or binging and purging. You have had bad experiences in your life you continue to think about and feel weak because you can’t just get over it.

Let me guess, you've been in therapy for years and nothing has helped much? You are not alone. Mental health treatment has failed clients who suffer from complex developmental trauma. This is the trauma that happened as a child and there was no escaping the day to day nightmare of not being kept safe. These clients do not benefit from traditional cognitive-behavioral treatment approaches and talk therapy. They likely have high levels of dissociation and a chronic sense of disconnection from themself and others. They have had to turn on themselves in order to survive the unimaginable. It is time to return home to yourself.

If you have hit a wall in your relationships, with your health, or are struggling with past trauma and self worth, it's time to collaborate with a caring provider who can help transform the heaviness that interferes with your sense of purpose and connection. Using your insight into yourself and my insight into psychology and wellness, we will work together to identify the patterns that perpetuate pain and stagnation, shifting you toward healing emotional wounds, and creating powerful strategies for recovery. Serious depression, anxiety, the breakdown of relationships or individual health, call for heart centered attention.

I have a strong belief in the possibilities of healing, growth and change within an authentic collaborative client/therapist relationship. I have over 18 years of experience working with individuals and families recovering from trauma, living with chronic illness, working through relationship concerns and facing the challenges of mental illness. Taking the first steps to heal is often difficult, or even painful, however in doing so we can create a "path with heart" and meaning. I take a mindfulness based, goal oriented and active approach to therapy with focus on developing critical life skills.

Eating Disorders Therapists

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
