I have extensive experience in working with substance abuse, sex addictions, mood disorders, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, sexual abuse, trauma, and adjustment issues.
My therapy and coaching work is based on a belief that we all long to experience love, connection, purpose, and peace in our lives. Symptoms that arise such as anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, and physical illnesses signal a call to resolve and clear what is in the way of a happier life. My work embraces a holistic paradigm recognizing body, mind, and spirit, and focuses on helping clients learn to love and care for themselves as special and unique beings. Clearing out negative beliefs, healing emotional wounds, and eliminating toxic influences help clients live more authentic and empowered lives.

In a time of unraveling as teachers, healers, visionaries, and activist-warriors, you are at the forefront of addressing some of the greatest needs of our time. You have been working relentlessly to make a difference in the lives of those in your community because you believe in a future where humans can live more in balance with earth and the more than human world. But you get tired of carrying this weight. You want and need someone who understands both the passion and pain of pursuing your higher vision. You long for a place where you are able to replenish and resource in order to have the energy and ability to continue your work.

Therapy is an organic process that gives support and guidance. Our experiences and beliefs about ourselves and the world create emotional holding patterns of behavior. When we face these with compassion for ourselves, we become freer and more peaceful. Self compassion is a key piece of moving into deeper self connection and self acceptance. If this kind of self intimacy interests you, please contact me to begin.

We often have a sense that in some ways, somehow we have been holding back. The barriers hidden behind cost us in our capacity for intimacy, spontaneity, and precious space for the heart's need to express and to be seen. They are usually constructed for very good reasons; to avoid painful experiences and vulnerability. But more often than not, carry on decades beyond when the threatening events have past. Defenses, beliefs, and the wounds that shut us down developed around people. The healing can happen when we feel safety again. Not surprisingly, this needs to happen with people too.

I enjoy working and developing a therapeutic relationship with people that are struggling in their life whether it's with depression, anger, trauma, anxiety, relationships or even a sense that something needs to change. It's within that struggle that the spark of hope resides and I see it as my job to help people focus on their future, their strengths and successes and then begin to rediscover the hope and power to begin to shape their future and their lives.

My intention, as I walk on the healing path with my clients, is to empower self love. We are worthy, throughout our entire life cycle, of receiving all that life has to offer. Symptoms are connected to layers of shame and distrust built up over time through trauma and false programming. Once we understand the patterns that keep us trapped in our symptoms and heal the trauma that activated those patterns, we can make the choice to actively love ourselves and create the life of our dreams.

I help individuals and couples better understand, trust, and communicate their emotions, needs, and longings. Our emotions, even the painful ones, provide us with important information about what we need and where we should be headed. At times we dismiss our own inner wisdom in an attempt to fit in, keep the peace, or protect ourselves from hurt, but we then miss out on creating the life and relationships we desire. I strongly believe that people heal and grow best in connection with others, and therapy provides the security and compassion necessary to make new discoveries about yourself that can lead to positive change.

Hello! I am a clinical mental health counseling intern. I practice therapy from a humanistic, person-centered lens. While my first therapists were Cognitive-Behavioral focused, I have grown to appreciate a more adaptive approach. I have an interest in psychodrama, trauma informed therapy, and positive psychology. As a member of the queer community myself, I am LGBTQIA+ affirming, ethical non-monogamy, and kink friendly. Feminist theory heavily influences my therapeutic perspective with regards to the overarching societal and social justice systems that impact all of our daily lives. I hope to one day specialize in sex therapy.

Sometimes life events and experiences interfere with our ability to make sense of the world and find our place in it. We may lose our sense of safety and control and become flooded with overwhelming thoughts and emotions. Whether you’re feeling isolated, lonely, frustrated, fearful or confused, it is possible to emerge courageous and hopeful.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
