I provide an interactive, warm environment where clients feel comfortable and are productive. Having three psychology degrees, many specialties, and twenty+ years as a clinical expert, I identify and replace clients' negative patterns, thoughts, and feelings with more accurate, positive ones, and work through their deeper, "root" issues for more lasting effects. Change IS possible. Call me now to book a free phone consultation.

If you or a loved one is experiencing anxiety, unhappiness, relationship difficulties or are feeling stuck in your personal or professional life, therapy can help. Through our work together, you will gain insight into maladaptive patterns and actively work to address them to reduce symptoms and improve your quality of life. Many life experiences can be accompanied by emotional distress that can feel overwhelming, so my style is to work collaboratively with you by fostering an open and safe space that will empower you or your child to observe, explore, and adapt to find balance in life.

Therapy can be about working to resolve ongoing pain, or it can simply be about self-exploration and growth. No matter what brings you to therapy, it is my belief that a trusting relationship between client and therapist is the starting point for progress and is essential to achieving long-lasting change. In addition to working to achieve progress on individual therapeutic goals, we will work to help you find inner peace, make healthy and adaptive changes and function better in your relationships with others.

The relationship between client and therapist is essential for meaningful work to take place. To honor your process, I will approach our discussions with warmth, empathy, sometimes humor, and realness, all with the intent to challenge you as we create the space to face your experience of the world. My therapeutic approach is integrative and relational, rooted in the idea that our past experiences influence our reflexive responses to the world around us as we continue to grow. In our work we will focus on the present and past to discover and adapt what hasn’t historically worked, as you navigate relationships, stressors, and change.

Whether it be relationship conflict that brought you here, work or family-related stress, anxiety, grief, depression, low self-esteem, or the effects of navigating the day-to-day of being an LGBTQ+ person in a heteronormative society, your instinct to take these first few steps shows a desire for something new.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) specializing in LGBTQ-affirmative individual and group therapy. For the past seven years I have worked in both individual and community mental health, immersing myself in the unique ways anxiety, depression, and histories of trauma impact LGBTQ+ individuals across a spectrum of intersecting identities. My goal as a therapist is to create a safe, joyful, and collaborative space for clients to identify and deepen their existing strengths, as well as build new skills.

"Not until we are lost, do we begin to understand ourselves." -- Henry David Thoreau. I believe this statement is an essential truth about the human condition. Paradoxically, as other great intellects have attested to, it is precisely through self-understanding that one achieves emotional healing, wisdom and maturity. Through insight and self-awareness, one also gains an increased capacity for deep and meaningful relationships, a potent tonic for whatever ails, be it depression or anxiety, grief or trauma, aging or illness.... Resolving inner conflicts leads to healthier choices and the vanquishing of self-defeating patterns.

Relationship stress, conflict, and anxiety can rob the joy of dating and being in love. The pain of not fully connecting, cheating, and arguing with a loved one can feel unstabilizing.

I believe that you have valid reasons to feel and act the way you do, even if those reasons are not yet obvious or known. I am particularly interested in the various relationships that impact your reality and the influence those relationships have on your daily experiences. These include, but are not limited to: the relationships you have with the other people in your life (your family, your boss, your friends, your partner, etc.); the relationship you may have to stress, anxiety, depression, oppression, and trauma; the relationship you have to food and your body; and most importantly, the relationship you have with yourself.

I am accepting Private or PPO clients. Early parenthood, Postpartum, pregnancy, loss and fertility can come with feelings of overwhelm, worry, sadness, anger, frustration, and not feeling like yourself. You might be having thoughts that feel scary to you. Look, no one expects to feel horrible during pregnancy or after having a baby, but a lot of moms and parents do. And sometimes your partner doesn't understand either, or everyone just expects you to be happy and grateful. That's too much pressure and it's not real life. You need to feel heard, understood and supported. And you need skills and tools to help your healing along.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
