There are many reasons to seek therapy. Some are based on circumstances, others on one's history; maybe a cumulative sense of wanting to change, or family or work issues that are bearing down on one's daily living. The journey of self-knowledge is an investment in caring for oneself and one's future. There are patterns in one's thinking and challenging behaviors that can change through insight, understanding, and awareness. I spent several decades working in the film business before becoming a therapist and bring an understanding to creative people who are struggling with their work or in high- stress work conditions.

Depending on your needs and goals, my theoretical orientation may include aspects of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and family systems approaches.
A core part of therapy is the strength of the relationship between client and therapist. I believe in building a positive therapeutic relationship that is collaborative, safe, and genuine. I often work with clients to better understand themselves and their patterns, gain insight into maladaptive behaviors, express their thoughts and emotions honestly, learn to cope effectively with stressors, and find a greater sense of identity and connectedness.

My private practice focuses on individuals, families, couples and children. Working with children almost always involves the family as well. My approach is psycho-dynamic, yet I understand that it is through self awareness combined with the small decisions we make on a daily basis that change takes place. The past informs the present, but the goal is to create a present that better serves us. A comfortable therapeutic relationship, along with a client's motivation, are crucial for the success of the process. Working with individuals or the complexities of couples and family groups is very satisfying for me. .

Most of us pride ourselves on our strength and ability to "get through" life challenges. Yet, there are times in all of our lives when we seem be in a 'bad space' or things just seem out of alignment. People come to counseling because they are struggling with an issue, relationship, unresolved feelings, or feeling numb and apathetic to the world. Sometimes, we need insight into our choices and behavior or the impact of family dynamics on us. Counseling is about gaining insight, overcoming challenges, reconnecting mind, body, and spirit, fostering positive connections with others, and flourishing.

I understand when betrayal affects you and your family that if feels like the ground has been pulled out from under you.
Families are greatly impacted by betrayal, infidelity and sex addiction. As parents struggle to orient themselves to a new reality in the face of betrayal, it can be overwhelming and painful for a parent to recognize the immediate and future impact on their children. Well meaning parents can unintentionally make serious mistakes in managing the family during this painful and confusing time. You may have questions at this time such as “How is the tension in the household affecting our child?" and “Is our child internalizing emotional pain that we can't see?”

Our work together will give you the relaxed confidence and authority you need to pilot your family through this difficult period.
“You just DON’T Understand!” your teenager screams at you through tears and gritted teeth. Sometimes it’s unclear if your 12-year-old will ever come out of their room or look up from their video game. You’re afraid to call them down for dinner because of the reaction it may elicit. It’s mind bending to think that you – the parent – have to walk on eggshells just to keep the peace. You know it’s hard to be a teenager these days. But it feels like there’s such a divide, you don’t even know how to begin to help them. Once you lose your temper, the whole house descends into chaos. You’d do anything to get through to them.

In individual, couples, or family therapy, by working collaboratively, we can work through the obstacles that are preventing you from being who you desire to be.
Being able to have meaningful relationships in your life takes effort and can make a difference in the difficult situations that you may face during a lifetime. Sometimes the ghosts from our past make it hard to trust and communicate with our loved ones. Your past and present environmental stressors and relationships can shape who you are today and create feelings of depression and anxiety. At times, doing anything to cope seems necessary. However, with therapy, you can find those strengths that you already have and bring them to light in order to change your quality of life for the better.

I strive to create a non-judgemental, comfortable, calm and nurturing environment. This will allow us to explore together those issues that are most important to you in a safe space while receiving support, guidance, confidentiality and empathic perception. I offer individual, couples, family, and group counseling. When looking for the right therapist, it is important that you choose someone with whom you feel most comfortable. By listening to your needs, I find the model of therapy that will be most productive, and at times accomplish that by taking an eclectic approach.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
