It is my belief that healing comes from within you, and within the context of relationship. I practice Somatic Experiencing therapy, which focuses on positive psychology and the concept of healing at a biological and nervous system level (reconnecting the mind and body as one). As a facilitator and witness to this healing, I have had the privilege of working with clients experiencing a variety of presenting issues. I aim to provide a space for you to be your truest self, to help you to create more balance in your life, to break free from old patterns, and to expand your natural capacity to heal.

We often feel lost when solutions cannot be found for the challenges we face. It's at this point that our challenges become obstacles that block us from fully living our lives. Unfortunately, time doesn't heal all pain and our anxiety, anger, depression, and fear don't always go away on their own. As a therapist, my goal is to help you better understand yourself, find purpose in your pain, alleviate your stress, and make more space for creativity, love, and happiness in your life.

I strive to create a non-judgemental, comfortable, calm and nurturing environment. This will allow us to explore together those issues that are most important to you in a safe space while receiving support, guidance, confidentiality and empathic perception. I offer individual, couples, family, and group counseling. When looking for the right therapist, it is important that you choose someone with whom you feel most comfortable. By listening to your needs, I find the model of therapy that will be most productive, and at times accomplish that by taking an eclectic approach.

I imagine you’re in pain right now. You’re feeling alone, anxious, unhappy, and overwhelmed. Your relationships just don’t feel like they once did, you often feel like you don’t belong at work or with your friends. You just don’t know what to do to feel better. We’ve all been through dark periods in our lives, but the question is how do we dig ourselves out? Change is scary and difficult, but with my help it’s possible.

I've come to understand that cultivating a fulfilling life requires a deep sense of safety within our own bodies and minds. Experiencing intense feelings of irritability, anxiety, or sadness can be overwhelming, leaving us feeling stuck in a cycle of despair, potentially driving us toward unhealthy coping that can interfere with our ability to live in the present, tend to our daily responsibilities, and maintain important relationships. Without understanding the underlying reasons behind your feelings, and working through these challenges, it's difficult to experience a sense of wholeness and confidence needed to attain your goals.

I have a special interest in working with couples and families and in doing Dream Work with my individual clients. However, I do balance my practice using other therapeutic techniques from other theorists as well. It is not so important for me to apply a certain theory or my own beliefs on a client but instead it is my intention to really understand my clients' own personal beliefs and expectations of therapy. Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
