My doctoral dissertation was a case study of PTSD.
I have heard it said that it only takes one therapist to change a light bulb, but the light bulb has to really want to change. Naturally, my best results are with motivated people who realize their current patterns aren't working and are willing to try something different. I have experience with adolescents, adults and mature adults. While my religious background is Christian, my clients come from all religious backgrounds, and sexual orientations. My intention is to walk the talk and my experience as a husband of 40 years, a father, and a grandfather, add to my therapeutic offering.

My specialties include counseling for childhood trauma/abuse, building self-confidence and navigating life as a highly sensitive person.
Are you looking for purpose, meaning and connection? Are you struggling with insecurity or lack of motivation? I've worked with many clients to get to the root of their symptoms and help them thrive. My style is very relational in nature-my desire is to walk alongside my clients to help them find relief and grow. Many therapists are no longer offering in person sessions. Not me! I work primarily in office as I place high value on face to face connections in this digital age. Reaching out to make a therapy appointment takes courage—I would be honored to connect with you and see how I can help.

Some of my therapeutic interventions including, CBT, DBT, Trauma-Focused, Mindfulness, Strengths Based interventions, and psychoeducation.
Life has many struggles and obstacles, it's our choice to choose which path to take. I believe that therapy is the first step for healing. Having someone to talk to in a safe environment without judgment might help to see things differently. Therapy is to discover your potential and your authentic self. I have over 7 years experience working with immigrants and refugee families from various parts of the world dealing with the trauma and stress of displacement, coming to a new country, cultural integration and life transition. I have 5 years clinical experience working with children, youth, families, adults, and couples..

Discovering ourselves can raise different emotions because as humans we tend to wear a mask to appear to others differently. Perhaps, we wear a masks as shields to protect us from others hurting us or wear masks because we are fearful to show who we really are as individuals. Are you are willing to heal those open wounds that continuously hurt you and stop you from moving forward? Do you want to stop listening to your inner voice and stop judging yourself (no one judges you more than yourself). This process could definitely be painful and it is hard work; however, you can make some changes if you are willing to do so.

Anxiety can show up in many different ways in our life. It can make us work harder to prove ourselves or to have an unrealistic standard for ourselves. It can immobilize us and make us afraid to take any risks because we are fearful of potential outcomes. It can impact our relationships by leading to caretaking or people pleasing. It can lead us to try to control different areas of our lives and to avoid situations when we feel out of control. It may impact our ability to take care of ourselves, including effecting sleep and eating. Avoiding or attempting to manage anxiety can take a significant amount of time and energy.

At times we all struggle to find the words to express what we feel. Children can find healing and resolution for issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, parental divorce and life adjustments through talk, play, and art therapy. I desire for clients, of all ages, to feel seen, heard, and valued as they are encouraged to express themselves; verbally, visually, or both.

To experience life fully is to fully experience a wide range of balanced emotions. However, when sadness, anger, guilt and shame, depressed or anxious emotions infringe on our physical, mental, and relational well being, psychotherapy will help to restore a balanced life that can lead to healing and growth. I believe that having a trusted and meaningful relationship with my client is the foundation of successful therapy. For this reason, I provide a safe, nurturing, and active listening therapeutic environment where the process of healing and growth can take place.

Unpacking yourself isn't a simple process. Whether self-exploring and working on your growth journey, experiencing big life changes - including positive ones - or experiencing the heavier things of life like toxic or unstable relationships, an identity crisis, family dysfunction, religious trauma, or grief of any kind, you don't have to stay stuck or lost. And you don't have to figure everything out alone. The only thing you have to be - is willing. Healing isn't easy, but it is important. So what are you waiting for?

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
