Patients often tell me how they feel frustrated, hopeless, lost, and exhausted by the time they seek out a therapist. Many folks in my practice are Asian American adults who experience painful conflicts within their family of origin that lead to separation, emotional distance, or even estrangement. I also work with individuals and couples who feel stuck in frustrating repetitive patterns in their thoughts and behaviors, negatively impacting their ability to find enjoyment in their lives and in their relationships. Therapy can give you a space to speak freely and listen to yourself in new and different ways.

I welcome those who find themselves in the unknown spaces of their lives, when transitions or change are calling them to shed what no longer serves them, and become more of who they truly are. I sit with you as a collaborative ally in the discovery of your own unique inner voice. While we may seek to understand old limiting beliefs, our deeper journey is toward uncovering the part of you that naturally moves towards its greatest wholeness and aliveness. Together we find the resources you already have to support your unfolding process.

Areas of focus may include: identity development, work stress, imposter syndrome, self-doubt, burnout, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, unresolved childhood issues, marginalization, oppression, and trauma.
The decision to embark on the path of healing and face oneself, is not an endeavor to be taken lightly, as it requires courage, vulnerability, and patience. With that said, intentionally delving into a healing process can be a powerful and liberating experience - an amazing journey, filled with new discoveries about oneself. In my practice I help my clients shed light on their unconscious process, gain more awareness about themselves, including what motivates them, better understand how they relate to others in their lives, as well as find healthier ways of connecting and coping.

I have been working and teaching in the mental health field for the past 18 years and have helped many people grow, live a more authentic life and form stronger bonds with the ones they love. I believe a good therapeutic relationship forms the foundation from which emotional growth and change occur. I create a warm, playful and collaborative environment where your thoughts and feelings can be safely experienced and explored. Ultimately, a good experience in therapy should help you to become more yourself and feel more secure in who that is.

My focus is working with individuals with PTSD and C-PTSD, ACOA, grief, disassociation, attachment wounds, relationship issues, and couples.
My belief is everything is interconnected. When we hurt in one area of our lives, often times the other areas hurt with it. As simple as it may sound, sometimes feeling our feelings can be hard work. Truly understanding and being honest with authentic selves can be challenging and sometimes scary. No one should have to do this alone. Together, we can deeply listen and nurture your authentic self to help you heal and grow. We are not just talking together, we are experiencing. To learn more, visit my website at: nakaimatherapy.com

Based on your individual needs and goals, I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities to help you change your relationship to problems, develop skills for managing difficult emotions, and alter patterns that no longer serve you.
It is a radical act to pursue health, liberation, and self-acceptance in a world that too often seeks to dehumanize and control us. My intention is for therapy to be a refuge from that pressure and trauma, where you can explore who you want to be and how you want to live your life. Everyone has unique needs, strengths, and values, so my therapeutic approach is always as collaborative and egalitarian as possible. As a member of the transgender community, I am particularly experienced in issues relating to LGBTQ+ identity, relationships, and discrimination.

My goal is to help my clients break free from pain and embark on a journey towards personal growth. I know how it feels to be stuck in pain, and I know how amazing and life changing it feels to find a way out. I believe that this process is what builds beautiful, strong resilient people. My mission is to guide individuals like you along this path of self-discovery and resilience-building. I believe that this journey involves two key steps. First, we must process and heal from past pain. Then we can embark on an exploration of creativity, nature, spirituality, connection and pursuing your personal values and passions.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
