My clinical interests include trauma, highly sensitive people, eating disorders & disordered eating, anxiety, food's effect on mood, LGBTQ health and empowerment, and women's health and empowerment.
My path to the study of nutrition and counseling began in 2008 when my doctor helped me realize the connection between my mood and my choices in food. After many years of study and clinical work I've learned many other ways to help the brain and body through counseling and nutrition. From 2012-2014 I worked as an intern therapist at Seattle Counseling Service where I taught an ongoing Food & Mood group. Since then I have worked in private practice helping people with food and mental health issues.

I specialize in the following: women with ADHD, relationship issues, managing anxiety & depression, couples therapy, grief & loss, life transitions, eating disorders/disordered eating, and co-dependency.
Navigating the messy, painful, hopeful, and confusing parts of our life is so hard to do on our own. We may feel lost, alone, or like we will never have the kind of life we want to have. What seems to come easily for others may feel crushingly hard for us to get for ourselves. Therapy offers us the space to be witnessed in our pain and struggle while also digger deeper into the honest truths and hopes of our life. I deeply believe that we heal in community, and therapy is the perfect place to begin to allow ourself to be seen, heard, and understood in a totally safe and consistent environment.

I am a Seattle based Art and Psycho-Therapist, serving Adults through a means of verbal and visual expression. I work to explore each clients experiences through creative expression, not only as an emotional outlet but also as a window into other parts of the self and a way to create meaningful and lasting change. When we make time to listen to our bodies and emotions, we begin to reconnect with our inherent wisdom. We don't lose touch with this wisdom on our own. Trauma, unhealed wounds, and oppressive systems disconnect us from our wisdom and intuition, and impact our ability to feel at ease. You and your body carry so much, from the grief and resilience of those who came before you, to the stress of everyday life, and each story of pain, joy, and survival that has led you to seek care. It is normal to experience overwhelm, anxiety, disruption, and depression while carrying so much. You weren't meant to carry it all on your own.

Life can be isolating at times. This is especially true when you add in ADHD, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, chronic illness, and Queerness, cultural, and relationship issues. We hold so many identities and struggles that influence who we are and how we move through our place in the world. It is essential to find yourself among those identities and move into the whole version of yourself that finds comfort in the here and now. This includes finding your community and support through all that life throws at us. As a therapist, I move through sessions with a person-centered, feminist, and multicultural lens.

As a therapist, and human in general, I am passionate about creating space for the stories and emotions that are so often pushed away, hidden from view, and disavowed. I believe that to be seen, heard, and accepted in these tender places can be a profoundly healing experience, even (and especially) when there is "nothing to do about it," other than bear witness and grieve. An important piece of this process is moving towards a way of being that centers less around achieving, perfecting and “doing” and much more around “being.” Being present, being messy, being perfectly imperfect and ok with slow processes and uncertainties.

I know there's a lot going on in the world right now and that you're probably feeling the toll of it. In my practice, I often collaborate with caregivers, healthcare providers, and artists- people who put so much energy into caring for others and creating something larger than themselves. This is sacred work and it can also be depleting. Do you find that you struggle to care for yourself? Is it hard to offer yourself the same compassion and comfort that you can provide others?

Throughout life there are many things we are in control of, however there are also things we may not have control over. Experiencing this feeling of no control can manifest itself in anxiety, depression, loss of self, or even impact relationships with those around you. Whether it's due to your upbringing, the environment, or traumatic experiences, the constant fight to regain power and control of your life again can be exhausting, overwhelming and isolating. Therapy is that helping hand that can guide you on your healing journey and path to self-discovery. It can also be your safe place to rest and just be.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) has been called "The Doubting Disease," and is characterized by unwanted and intrusive doubts, fears, “irrational” worries, and at its worst, terror and psychological torment. People with OCD experience doubts and fears which usually focus on whatever they most care about or highly value, such as their most important relationships, their moral character, their health or the health and well-being of those they care about. Sufferers use mental or behavioral rituals that provide temporary relief from the obsession, which become compulsions that can be painful in and of themselves.

Eating Disorders Therapists

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
