I provide treatment for: what's often called sex/porn addiction; sexual interests that cause problems; sexual anxiety; sexual guilt and shame; erectile dysfunction; premature ejaculation; performance anxiety; decreased interest in sex; difficulty with arousal and orgasm; genital pain.
I understand how problems with sex and sexuality can have an immense negative impact on your quality of life, including your relationships, your mental health, and the way that you see yourself. But these problems are not insurmountable; treatment can be very effective. I'm a registered psychologist, and specialize in treating sexual problems and disorders. My treatment methods (CBT and ACT) are based on extensive research and clinical evidence demonstrating their effectiveness. Most importantly, my clients tell me that I put them at ease, quickly earn their trust, and make it comfortable to talk about their most intimate problems.

You want to leave the anxiety and anguish behind and start to enjoy sex again, to experience the excitement of being connected to another, and to feel the power of your own sexuality.
Your sex or relationship issues leave your life feeling like it is in turmoil even outside of the bedroom. You’ve tried to manage things on your own, but it’s a struggle, and you’re tired of struggling. Friends and family don’t understand, but it’s not like this is something you can talk to them about anyway. And even if there is that one friend that you can talk to, they don’t really know what to say.

There is always space for self-improvement and growth. It is not always easy to reach out and open your heart and your life to someone. You might be going through tough times, and you might not be able to talk about it with anyone. Depression can take us to dark places and sometimes we might need a bit of a guidance and tools to be able to deal with it and understand it. There might be difficult life transitions that you can come across and you might want your life and your relationships to move to a better place.

Hi I’m Justin, a Psychotherapist, Couples Counsellor, and Certified Clinical Sexologist. For the better part of my life, I have been learning and training how to help people of all genders and sexual expressions tackle some of the confusing and difficult parts of life. I know what it's like to feel stuck, whether in your personal identity, sex life, relationships, career, or just life in general. I also know a lot of these topics can be tough to talk about, and that's why I'm here; to provide an environment of trust, compassion, and safety for us to explore some of these areas together without judgement.

First, my gratitude for your curiosity about my work. The foundation for all of my work is from a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and anti-oppressive lens. I have had the honour of working with a wide range of people who seek to navigate through challenges such as childhood trauma, sexual abuse/violence, grief, intimacy issues, anxiety, and chronic pain. I have witnessed the often beautiful and life-shifting, but complex journey of navigating such issues and the courage it takes to do so. I aim to create a space where this vulnerability is met with compassion, safety, support, and a guiding hand if you feel you need it.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
