Emotional pain is in the fabric of our existence. My approach is to work on gaining shared understanding of what makes your emotional pain unbearable, what creates and sustains obstacles to healing, and how these obstacles can be overcome.
I have had extensive training and experience in many psychotherapy models, and it guides me toward building understanding of what is at the root of my patients' emotional suffering - not only at the level of reported symptoms (e.g., "depression", "anxiety"), but what is going on 'behind the scenes' that causes and perpetuates these difficulties.
Besides my doctorate psychology degree, I've completed 6-year post-doc psychoanalytic training, have graduate degrees in applied mathematics, statistics, and a degree in music. My scientific background gives me competence to critically evaluate and synthesize the wealth of contemporary psychotherapy research and to implement the latest findings into my work.
