I serve couples/throuples who are in one of two kinds of situations. 1) At least one person is so hurt or hopeless they aren't sure whether they want to stay in the relationship. 2) Everyone wants to keep this relationship; they want it to be the best version of the relationship. And they're having trouble getting there....Many of my clients are also dealing with schizophrenia, traumas, or bipolar disorder....And I do evaluations for couples adopting from India.
This therapy is different: 1) I believe the typical, weekly, 50-minute session just drags the problem out. Let's fix this ASAP. After Episcopal priest studies (at Yale), I was a hospital & hospice chaplain, and later served in a Spanish-language, LGBTQ-affirming church in Huntington Park. I didn't marry until late 40's. My wife's family is from Bangladesh/India and is Muslim. My in-laws and I had to figure out a lot of interfaith & cultural issues. All this informs my work.
