As a seasoned counseling psychologist, I have found that you "can't heal what you don't feel" and that most emotional difficulties stem from difficult experiences and relationships earlier in life. Helping you understand how your past experiences result in current struggles is a pivotal part of the help I offer. Additionally, I will provide you with tools such as mindfulness, symptom-based coping strategies, and emotional awareness exercises so that you can actively participate in your own growth. The foundation for our work is a compassionate and nonjudgmental therapeutic partnership.
Now offering weekly online group therapy! As an expert guide to your journey, I bring an array of techniques. I have taught mindfulness and meditation techniques for 20+ years. Skilled in EMDR, I learned from the master, creator Dr. Francine Shapiro. I specialize in eating disorders, trauma, and emotionally blocked folks who "live in their heads."
Beyond my PhD, I've completed internships at both a college counseling center and a Stanford-affiliated hospital. As a full-time medical school professor, I created and directed an eating disorders clinic, lecturing and publishing in that field. For 22 years I was a partner in Carolina Psychological Associates.

Interpersonal Growth Group
TELEHEALTH ONLY: Ongoing small group experience providing unique opportunity to work on issues such as low self-esteem, fear of revealing authentic self, and family-of-origin issues. Through honest and constructive feedback between participants regarding both strengths and areas needing change, significant therapeutic growth can occur. The group functions as a sort of microcosm of the real world and offers the opportunity to practice more effective ways of interacting with others. Also facilitates understanding of dysfunctional family influences on current struggles. Supportive arena in which to build confidence, empathy, and assertiveness.
