As a therapist, it is my goal to create a safe and welcoming environment for individuals to explore any concerns they may be experiencing. My approach is tailored to each individual client, and I believe that a strong therapeutic alliance can provide a safe and healing space. It is important for me to explore my client's personal history and background to help them understand how it is currently affecting their present situation and how we can collaborate to improve it.

I work with the LGBTQIA+ community, eating disorders, chronic pain, kink/poly/sex workers, PTSD, self-harm, and suicidality.
I’m glad you found my page! My name is Sage (they/them). Have you ever felt outcast from those around you, or less than others based on the intersectionality of your identities and how you present yourself? You may feel that nobody will understand that coming out later in life is possible- you are not alone. As a non-binary, pan, ace, neurodivergent and disabled therapist, I have lived experience with where you are right now. When you come to see me, you will be met with non-judgment, empathy, connection, and compassion. You are always welcome to come as you are. Outside the therapy room I love nature, dance, and fostering animals!

Anxiety can be debilitating. You may find that you’re constantly worrying, on edge, or fearing that something bad might happen. You feel as if you can’t seem to get your mind to calm down, to take a break, to relax. You may feel badly about yourself, and notice you’re criticizing yourself more often. You might even become fearful of your anxiety, furthering this vicious cycle. Some might be able to pinpoint these feelings to something specific, while others may have a difficult time figuring out where this feeling came from, and why it won’t go away. Either way, anxiety leaves you feeling drained, exhausted, and out of control.

Drawing upon years of experience with people with chronic illness, LGBTQ+ concerns, and trauma, I rely on proven methods that enable you to cope and overcome hurdles.
You aren’t sure where you fit in anymore. You feel like you aren’t good enough and your relationships aren’t the one you want. Life is sometimes difficult, but all you want is to find relief from the shame, anxiety, and feeling like you don’t belong in your family or in your community. You're so tired of this happening over and over and being panicked, stressed, and overwhelmed. As others invalidate you for who you are, your self-doubt and isolation grow. You know you need support or guidance, but figuring out who can be trusted or what will be helpful feels overwhelming. Where do you even begin?

I opened a mental health practice because after a decade working in traditional counseling settings, I am most drawn to supporting individuals interested in empathically instilling acceptance for themselves and the way they have learned to survive within their environment. I work best with teens and young adults who tend to over-think and want to lean to befriend their feelings. If you find yourself struggling with transitions, managing emotions or trusting yourself and others, I would be honored to support you in discovering ways to reduce tension and increase understanding around what your “symptoms” are trying to tell you.

My clinical focus is helping clients increase confidence, feel more fulfilled, and create satisfying relationships. I believe people have the inner power to heal and to grow; I can provide empathy and guidance for those who are struggling with this process. My approach to psychotherapy is an integration of CBT, DBT, mindfulness & expressive techniques (i.e., art, writing, yoga) within a trauma-focused model. More simply said, I assist clients in understanding how their relational experiences and perceptions impact their emotions and their stories of their lives, & how to change any aspect that is impeding satisfaction and connection

Understanding our life experiences and how they shape our views can be difficult to do alone. Traumatic events or troubling times, no matter how long ago, can bring up harmful thoughts and complicated feelings. Anxiety and self-doubt may be holding us back. Fortunately, it doesn’t always have to be this way. We will work to understand what you need for your own therapy journey. Building a trusting relationship is important to me, and I will be your support as you process what you have been through. Together, we can find balance in your life and bring hope and healing.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
