As a practical, interactive, solution-focused therapist, my goal is to help you to enhance your personal growth. I practice dynamic problem-solving with children, adolescents, and adults, coping with the life cycle stresses of "full catastrophe living", as described by Jon Kabat-Zinn in his book of the same name.
The purpose of therapy is to reduce suffering, to develop a more affirming sense of self and to change damaging beliefs. My view is that we all need, at times, to create a space where we can practice a new attitude toward life, the world and ourselves.
In assisting couples to negotiate healthier relationships, I am mindful of the tension between two fundamental human needs; intimacy and autonomy. In her book "Mating in Captivity", Esther Perel describes the dilemma in long-term relationships: "How do we long for what we already have?"
In treating families, my conviction is that demonstrated unconditional love is the birthright of every child. Given the reality of today's high maintenance lifestyles, and spirit-crushing expectations, I educate parents to live in ways more attentive to their own needs, as well as those of their children.
